Morphy Richards Power Steam Elite Steam Generator Review

I wrote a blog post a couple of months ago about my thoughts on ironing and how I pretty much ironed as little as I could get away with and that I would not ever ever be found ironing underpants or tea towels.

Ironically, I was recently asked by Morphy Richards if I would like to review two of their irons and I have to say that the first iron that I tried; the Power Steam Elite Steam Generator has actually changed my views on ironing completely.  This iron is amazing.  Really, really amazing.

Prices range around the £150 for this iron, but I have to say that it is worth the investment.  It is quite a bulky appliance as the iron itself is attached to a steam generator but this has a 2 litre water tank which can produce up to a whopping 180g of steam so it is worth it.  When you have finished the iron sits safely on top of the tank and you can wrap the cord around the bottom, so it is easy to store.

So why am I so impressed with this iron?  Well mainly because it actually makes the ironing quicker and easier and for me that is essential.  One of my biggest issues with the ironing is that there is always so much and it takes ages to do however, with my first attempt with the Power Steam Elite I did all of the ironing in record time.  And I mean all of the ironing, even the grotty things that usually remain at the bottom of the basket for months on end until someone takes pity on them.

There are three steam settings but on full power, the steam power is really impressive and if you are ironing larger items like sheets or duvet covers, you can fold it and iron the top layer and the stem powers through the whole lot.  Ironing the children’s clothes is a breeze as you only have to iron one side and the job is done.

Another feature of this iron that I really like is the ceramic easy glide soleplate which really does make the iron easy to use.  The iron itself is really light to which also helps if you have a large pile to tackle.

The iron is really easy to use.  The tank easily pulls out to be filled with water.  Turn the unit on and it heats up really quickly and the buttons are really clear to adjust the steam.  If the water level gets low, a light comes on and the iron makes a warning noise to let you know and if you walk away and accidentally leave the iron on, it automatically shuts down after ten minutes which is a great safety feature.

So all in all, I am a big fan of the Power Steam Elite and although I still won’t be ironing underpants and tea towels, it certainly has made me more enthusiastic about ironing which can’t be a bad thing.

I was sent a Morphy Richards Power Steam Elite Steam Generator for the purpose of this review.  All opinions and images are my own.

  1. The power steam irons really make light work of the ironing, so much easier than ironing the same shirt ten times to get the creases out!

  2. I hate ironing so much that I just don’t bother. The OH and I have reached an agreement. He irons and I make him tea. This looks amazing though!
