In August we love

You may have noticed that I rather like taking photos and every now and then, I take a photo that I think would be lovely either framed or as a canvas.  A few months ago, I took a few photos of L just waiting on our front gate and they were such lovely natural, clear photos of him that I knew I would get one of them made into a canvas.  So when I was contacted about doing a review for The Canvas Prints, I knew straight away which photo I was going to use.  Uploading the photo to The Canvas Prints was really quick and simple to do.  Once uploaded, you choose from three different types of wrapping to go around the edge of your canvas.  Once you are happy with that and the position of your photo, you can play around with the different sizes available to see which suits the photo best and you can also try out a range of image effects which is great fun if you are looking for something a bit different.

Once you are happy with the preview, you add your image to the cart and checkout via Paypal.  It really is a quick and easy process and I am absolutely thrilled with the result.  The canvas is 18″ by 12″ and it is really sturdy and well made.  The photo looks perfect and I am looking forward to putting it up in our bedroom when we have redecorated in the autumn.

The Canvas Prints

An 18″ by 12″ rectangle canvas is currently on offer at The Canvas Prints for £30 which is a great offer.  They also do a range of canvas shapes and styles and there are currently some amazing offers on all of their products.

Method products are not only amazing to use but they also look so pretty.  I often buy them and then don’t actually want to use them as they just look so nice sitting there on the side of the bath or the window sill.  If you have been in hiding and have never heard of Method before, their products are all environmentally friendly, paraben free, not tested on animals and generally very pleasing to the eye and nose.  The products are really good too, I use the multi-surface cleaners, window cleaner and bath cleaner on a regular basis and I am always happy with the results.

There is a new member of the Method family and that is the fresh currant handwash which is made of blackcurrant, apple, lily and jasmine.  It smells amazing and is very soft on your hands, so perfectly good for little hands too.

Method Fresh Currant Handwash

Method fresh currant handwash comes in a 354ml dispenser and is available from Boots for £2.49(RRP).

Finding books that L wants to read can sometimes be a bit of a challenge.  He does enjoy reading and if the book interests him, he will read it avidly.  Generally he prefers non fiction books filled with facts, figures and statistics that he can pore over and reread at his leisure.  The Top 10 of Everything 2015 is a brilliant book and it is just perfect for L, but R has enjoyed looking at it too.  Published last month by Octopus Publishing Group, the Top 10 of Everything has the most amazing facts and figures about anything and everything you could think of.  Medical marvels, infamous prison break-outs, deadly pirates, the highest soccer transfer fees, biggest selling console games and the most intelligent machines, each double page has two lists along with photos and xtreme facts and there are even a few wordsearches and quizzes in there too.

Top 10 of everything 2015

The Top 10 of Everything 2015 is a really brilliant book for children (and adults too) as it is interesting and appealing but also really educational at the same time and each time you open it, you will find something new to surprise you.  Whenever the boys look through this book, I like the way that they tell each other or me about what they are reading and the sport section has proven to be the most popular so far.

Top 10 of everything page layout

If you are looking for a book to inspire  and interest your children, I really recommend this book.  The RRP is £14.99 and with over 300 pages of fun facts and a very solid hard cover, this would make a brilliant present.

Shuffle are a new range of games from Cartamundi.  The range of games have been designed with time and travel in mind.  Each little set of cards easily fits into bags and rucksacks but transforms into a great game for two or more players (the number of players depends on the game) and the games last for between fifteen and twenty minutes.  There are twelve games in total and there is a mix of new twists on familiar traditional games and some new games based on popular toys;

  • Battleship
  • Boggle Slam
  • Cluedo
  • Guess Who
  • Littlest Pet Shop
  • Monopoly Deal
  • My Little Pony
  • Nerf
  • Pictureka
  • Play-Doh
  • Transformers
  • Trivial Pursuit

We were sent Littlest Pet Shop, Transformers and Play-Doh to review and these are really cool games.  It is handy to have a game that fits easily into your bag. We tried out Transformers on the train and it was perfect to play on the table.  Funnily enough at the same time, the family opposite us were playing the Guess Who and that looked like great fun too.

Shuffle Card Games

With all three games, it does take some time to read the instructions and learn the layout of the game and the role of the different cards in the game.  Once you have that sussed, the games are really great fun.  The boys all enjoyed Transformers and loved the different Autobot and Decepticon cards as they have just seen the film and are really into Transformers at the moment.

A was immediately drawn the the Littlest Pet Shop and she and Daddy have played this game a few times; the object is to collect different pets that are hiding in different locations.  It is really clever and she loves it; especially if she wins.

There is also another aspect to these clever little games; you can download a Shuuflecards app fromthe app store and Google Play and this adds something to the game; additional challenges, sounds, images or bringing the cards to life, it is well worth downloading the app to help you play.

I am a big fan of family games anyway and we have a cupboard full of different games that we have collected over the years.  These are great though as they are perfect for travel and we are definitely going to take them with us when we go camping in a couple of weeks as they are perfect to tuck into a bag and you don’t need a huge amount of space to play them in.

For more information about the Shuffle; the games, the app and the range of games, check out their website.

That is such a gorgeous picture of L! I’ve never had any canvases of my kids, but it’s something I’d like to do to fill a few gaps on the walls around the house!
We like the Method shower spray – I use it liberally in the vain hope it will stop me having to do actual cleaning!
My boys have hit a wall with reading at the moment – they’ve read all the Harry Potters, Alex Riders, Wimpy Kids, Tom Gates etc etc over and over again and are reluctant to try new books. My eldest was reading a book very similar to this one last night.

Nice way of rounding things up! We’ve been trying out the Shuffle games too – I’ve had quite the nightmare trying to follow the Transformers instructions!
