I discovered Sarah Morgan’s books last year and I have read a few now over the last year and I love her writing style, it is easy to read with likeable characters and a romantic theme running through the stories and I have to admit that I do love a bit of romance in a book. Her books often come in trilogies but you can still read each book as it is a complete story in its own right but within the trilogies, the books are linked by location, characters and of course, romance. If you have enjoyed reading a book, it is nice to know that there will more stories linking the same characters, it gives you something to look forward to.
In Sleepless in Manhattan, we meet three girls, Paige, Eva and Frankie, who are best friends who work together for an events company in New York. Paige is the main protagonist of this story. Confident that her hard work will lead to a promotion, Paige is shocked and devastated to find that she and her two friends all lose their jobs due to cuts in the company. Health troubles in her youth, spur Paige on to be independent and determined and when her brother’s best friend Jake suggests setting up her own company, she decides that being her own boss and having her best friends at her side, sounds like the perfect solution.
The reality of setting up your own company in such a fast-moving city proves to be harder than she thought as does taking advice and help from Jake, who she has secretly been in love with for many years. But the three girls all love their lives in New York and are reluctant to return to their families on Puffin Island and Paige feels an overwhelming responsibility to make a success of their venture as she doesn’t want to let her friends down.
Will they finally succeed in their quest to take event management in New York by storm? Will Paige ever recover from Jake’s rejection of her when she was younger? Will Paige ever know how Jake really feels about her?
This is a really lovely, positive story. It is like a big hug. It gives you a warm feeling from beginning to end and you want there to be a happy ending for all of the characters involved. The theme of female friendship runs throughout the book and the female characters are all strong-minded and independent. Jake’s character is almost too good to be true but you can’t help but love him. The New York location provides and lively and colourful backdrop to the story.
Each new chapter starts with a quote from one of the characters which is a great idea and a couple of my favourites are;
“When life closes a door, you can always break in through a window.” – Eva
“If at first you don’t succeed, change the plan.” – Paige
Sleepless in Manhattan is part of a trilogy of books called the From Manhattan With Love. Sunset in Central Park is out in July this year and continues the story of Frankie and having enjoyed Sleepless in Manhattan and liked the characters, I felt that there was going to be more to this story and I am looking forward to reading Sarah Morgan’s next instalment and with a third instalment focussing on the character of Eva too, I will look forward to more stories of these girls in Manhattan.
I was sent a copy of this book for the purpose of the review. All opinions are my own.
