It has been a while since I have been out and about with my camera but a short visit to Cornwall to see my eldest son was the perfect excuse to take some photos in one of my favourite parts of the world.
My son is at university in Falmouth and now that he has been there for over a year, he knows the area really well and took me to some of his favourite spots to eat and see the sights. Unfortunately, on the first day, the clouds gathered and a mist started to form, but even on a grey day, when you usually live somewhere that is so far from the sea, it is still lovely to be able to breathe in the sea air and enjoy the views.
As I left Falmouth the following day, the clouds were still thick and grey and I decided to take a detour via the North Cliffs just outside Portreath and towards Godrevy. I remembered stopping there several years ago when we were staying in Hayle and just as I drove towards the cliffs, the clouds parted and the sun made a welcome appearance. The views along that road are beyond stunning.
Driving along the coastal road is amazing and as the area is owned by the National Trust, there are lots of stopping points where you can park and take in the view. Hell’s Mouth Cafe is on this road and it is a great place to stop for something to eat and drink and just opposite the cafe, there are some of the best views along that stretch of road.
On the way back, I drove through Portreath and I love that as you drive around the corner, this small seaside town suddenly comes into view.
Two days wasn’t really long enough to appreciate the wonders that this part of Cornwall has to offer but as my son will be here for at least another two years, I will be back. There is something very therapeutic about being by the sea.
