2020 saw many of us getting our vacations and holidays cancelled. Borders between countries have had limited travel across them and many travel companies have gone bust due to travel limitations. Why Barcelona?
Barcelona has a whole lot to offer visitors, which is why it’s one of the most popular European travel destinations. Start out by looking at your options when it comes to accommodation. Choose somewhere near to the sites you want to see or the places you want to dine and spend your evenings. Make sure that you consider luggage storage Barcelona so you don’t have to lug your cases around with you before or after you check in or check out. Start learning some basic phrases in Spanish so you can maneuver your way through a basic conversation, such as asking directions or ordering dishes.
Sagrada Familia
Of course, you’re also going to want to make sure that you see some of the most famous sights in Barcelona. Perhaps the most famous? The Sagrada Familia. This is a hugely impressive, unfinished Roman Catholic Church. Originally designed by famous architect Antoni Gaudi, you can see beautiful architecture featuring his signature modernist style. You can book to go inside the church and climb its many steps. If you find that you enjoy the Sagrada Familia, you can check out more of Gaudi’s works – many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. These include the Parque Güell, Palacio Güell, Casa Mila, Casa Vicens, Gaudí’s work on the Nativity façade and Crypt of La Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló and the Crypt in Colonia Güell.
Barceloneta Beach
Barcelona tends to be hot during the summer. So, if you’re looking to make the most of the sun, you can head down to Barceloneta Beach. While we don’t usually associate beaches with city breaks, Barcelona does have its own. Of course, this is the biggest of the city’s beaches, so do prepare for it to be busy and crowded while the weather is good. Finding the beach is pretty simple. You can take a taxi there or you can get there on public transport. Simply get on the Metro Yellow Line (L4) and get off at “Barceloneta”. Turn right on leaving the Metro, cross the main road and walk straight along the Passeig de Joan de Borbo for roughly ten minutes. Eventually, you will see the marina.
Of course, there’s a whole lot more to do in Barcelona. But hopefully, this has highlighted some of the perks and set your sights on this beautiful city!
