4 Ways To Reignite The Spark With Your Partner As A Parent

July 7, 2021 in Living

It’s easy for your role as a parent to take over your entire life. It can even start to play havoc with the connection you have with your partner. You might feel as though there is some distance between yourself and the one you love. Here’s how to get things back on the right track and feel your souls align once more.

4 Ways To Reignite The Spark With Your Partner As A Parent

Don’t Fear The Babysitter

As a parent, you probably don’t want to rely too heavily on the babysitter. Instead, you likely want to ensure that you are spending as much time as possible with your kids and that’s understandable. But you still need to dedicate some time to your partner as well. If you don’t do this you are always going to drift. One full date night a month or even a week could be just what you need to keep the spark alive and feel connected. It also gives you a little downtime and allows you to break free, even momentarily, from the pressure of being a fulltime parent.

Be Intimate

Next, you should look at the levels of intimacy that exist in your relationship. It’s important to make sure that you do focus on being intimate with your partner. The only exception would be if intimacy has never been a main part of your relationship. Intimacy can take lots of different forms. It can mean holding hands when the two of you are together or sweet kisses in moments of peace and quiet. It can involve holding one another in bed and of course sex. Some couples do struggle to keep their sexual connection healthy. There’s a lot of research from sex therapy psychologists exploring how to break through the roadblocks that could be in place here.

Show Your Love With Little Gifts

Valuing gift giving doesn’t make you materialistic. Some people have a love language that is focused on giving and receiving gifts. This is how they understand love and it’s often tied to their upbringing. If their parents gave them gifts early on in life to show their love, then they will often expect the same from their partner and also give gifts as a sign of affection too. Remember, you don’t have to spend a fortune on gifts. The gifts in question can often be small yet incredibly meaningful for the one that you love.

Plan A Trip

Finally, if you feel like there is definitely some distance between you and your partner, then it might be a smart choice to plan a trip together. You can leave the kids at home or take them with you but it is important that you use this trip to reconnect and remember why you fell in love with one another in the first place. Focus on who you are to one another. You can go somewhere you have been before or a place that’s completely fresh. It’s entirely up to you.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key steps that you can take to refuel the spark that once burned brightly between you and your partner.
