Mum, where are my AirPods?

December 7, 2021 in Parenting

This time last year, I thought I was being so clever.

On a daily basis, I was having to untangle my son’s headphone cable (I have no clue what he did with them but they were completely tangled and knotted).  The headphones themselves had an average life of a few months before I would be moaned at to replace them as one ear no longer worked or the cable had snapped.  It drove me mad.  He isn’t known for taking care of things, however, with listening to music being such an important part of daily life, I would try and encourage him to take better care of them.

Last year, in December, I was thinking long and hard about what to buy my son for Christmas and I had a lightbulb moment. AirPods (other brands of wireless headphones are available).  It was a genius idea.  No more untangling.  No more breaking.  I knew that he would love them.

I was right.  He loved them and they were straight in his ears and they rarely left them for a few weeks.

I was feeling very smug.  But alas, little did I know how I would be spending many hours over the year to come.

If you haven’t ever seen these type of headphones, they are very small and come in a little charging case.  I should have seen it coming, thinking about it, but I didn’t.  After a couple of months, my son came down looking upset, He had lost his AirPods.  Now, I have to say that he isn’t the best person when it comes to looking for things, or at least, finding things. But the little case was nowhere to be seen.  It took several hours of myself and my husband searching and retracing our sons steps to finally locate them in the washing machine in the pocket of a pair of jeans.

Apparently, they do wash well and still work afterwards.  Thank goodness.  They have now been washed a few times!

Since then, I have literally lost count of the hours I have spent looking for my son’s Air Pods.  I dread the words “Mum, where are my AirPods?’ We have found them in all sorts of weird and wonderful locations.  That little case is just the perfect size for sliding down sofas, under beds, into dollhouses in fact all over the house and car.

I definitely feel less smug now.

Someone did tell me the other day that like you can do ‘find my iPhone, you can also do find my AirPods’.  We haven’t been able to get it to work as yet but I am going to keep trying.  Imagine the hours of my life I will get back if I could get it to work?

Mum, where are my AirPods?

Those pesky Air Pods. My girls have cheap pairs which are very similar and they are forever losing them. They do go through the washer surprisingly well though. lol x
