There has been something unusual happening in Bristol this summer. Strangely coloured statues of dogs popping up everywhere. Lots of people wandering around with maps. It is called Gromit Unleashed and it is a trail of 80 large statues of Gromit; the dog from Wallace and Gromit, all designed by different people, located in and around Bristol and I would say that it has been a huge success.
I was a bit late to the party as usual and after seeing a few photos on Instagram and reading a post from Sarah at Mum of 3 World I decided that we would go and see for ourselves.
We had never been to Bristol before and what a brilliant way to discover a city than to follow a trail to find Gromits. We had a fantastic time and we walked miles but the really amazing thing is that the children walked miles too and they were so focused on finding the next Gromit, there was no moaning and no ‘I’m tired’ it was amazing.
We made two trips in the end and in the end we found 34 which we were pleased with, but not only that, we had fun, we walked miles and we discovered an amazing city with lots of interesting places that we will definitely go back and explore.
A cracking idea I think. If you are quick, the exhibition is on for another couple of weeks and it is well worth a visit.

We’ve been Gromitting too. There is talk of mopping up a few more this weekend. It has been great fun and a lovely way to show the children a bit more of Bristol. We cannot decide on our favourite. They are all so good.

Aha, this makes more sense now! We stopped at a NT property on the way from the Midlands to Devon, near Bristol, and found a topiary Gromit! I put a photo in this week’s #countrykids post (mixedbagofallsorts.co.uk). Did you find that one? They all look so fun 🙂
