Coats? Why would you even need to wear a coat? Secondary school obviously creates a warm glow in kids which enables them to tackle all weathers without ever wearing a coat as the minute they move schools, it is not cool to wear a coat.
It is all about the brand. Long gone are the supermarket clothes days, oh no, if it’s not Superdry and other clearly identifiably expensive brands, it isn’t worth having.
You need a new bathroom to cope with the hair products.
PDAs with your parents are not happening. They might still give you the odd hug and kiss in the confines of the house but you try to get them to give you a kiss in public; they would rather wrestle a crocodile.
They need a phone now!
Homework should be seen and not done.
They need a bag the size and general dimensions of the TARDIS.
Eating fruit at school is so primary school.
It is ALL about social media. Even if they are too young.
Skype is the new TV. Watching your friends talk rubbish is far more exciting than anything else.
There is a whole new vocabulary. Everything is good is ‘sick’, there is talk of ‘tekkers’, anything abnormal is ‘cray’ and ‘lol’ is an accepted part of normal everyday speech.
Even though they are “never tired”, they have never been so tired.
You have absolutely no money left after you have bought the school uniform.
They know EVERYTHING (well until they need help with their homework.)
The only photos they want to be in are selfies.

Hehe I can see myself in some of this, so funny. It was so not cool to kiss your parents in oublic once you hit 11! I’m going to try to con Z till he’s at least 16.
Totally agree!
Not only does my son full his phone up with selfie he fills mine up too. Oh and they don’t like pack lunch any more it has to be from the school canteen x

This makes me laugh. It totally sums it up. And it’s not just coats they don’t need, it’s jumpers too. -4 degrees and snow on the ground? I’ll be fine in my blazer and shirt.

I was sure I’d already commented on this post… but it appears not. I was using my phone at the time though so I blame that.
Anyway, loved this post! I am there now with BP and he’s driving me mad. And all the homework – what’s that all about? I’m talking homework for us (the parents) not the kids. Who knew I’d have so much to do after he’d started. :0

Yup! Sums them up perfectly. My older teen nearly left home when I suggested he wear gloves when it was snowing. Clearly I was the mad one though…
