Wot so funee – cock a doodle doo!

November 20, 2011 in Parenting

Due to tiredness, illness and general irritability this week, there has been a definite lack of humour in our household, so I am going to completely embarrass my gorgeous teenager and tell a little story about him when he was a lot, lot younger.  It is an oldie, but has been retold many times as it always amuses me!

As he was growing up and was at school ( he was about five), I tried to have an open attitude towards most things, and unless it was completely inappropriate, I would always try and explain things to him in a “grown-up” way.  Looking back, this has backfired on me on more than one occasion!

O loved Duplo and his Duplo farm was his favourite.  One day he was playing and he had picked up the word “cock” for his little cockerel.  So, I sat down and said that this was not really a great word to use and O replied: “Why?”  So I explained that it was a rude word for a winky.  He seemed to accept this and I never thought anything more about it.

A few weeks later, I had a call from O’s dad and he wasn’t best pleased.  He and O had been at his mother’s fiftieth birthday dinner party, when O had turned around, pointed to his dad’s crotch and announced very loudly to the room that that was his daddy’s cock.  He then proceeded to say that mummy had told him.

As you can imagine, they were not amused.  I admit that it was unfortunate, but I could also see the funny side!  It could have been worse, I could have also sent him with “Focky” his beloved fox puppet!
