Disney on Ice – Worlds of Fantasy

From the minute the show is scheduled to start, Disney on Ice – Worlds of Fantasy is all action.  Mickey and Minnie Mouse drive on to the ice in their little red car and apart from a short interval half way through, the fun and adventure doesn’t stop.

Mickey and Minnie take you on a trip to different ‘Worlds of Fantasy’.  First stop is Radiator Springs, which is a great place to be if your car breaks down.  Lightning McQueen and four of his friends, glide on to the ice and they are so realistic as they move around each other on the ice trying to work out what the problem is with Mickey’s car.

When their work is done, the characters from Cars, race back to Radiator Springs and Mickey and Minnie’s trip takes them under the sea as it is Ariel’s turn to take to the ice. Ariel and many of the other familiar characters from The Little Mermaid act out a shortened version of the classic story with the most incredible skating, costumes and props to really create an underwater scene on the ice.

Next was the moment that we had been waiting for; Tinkerbell.  The sea quickly became Pixie Hollow and as Queen Clarion flew into view, I knew that A was going to love this part of the show as she is all about Tinkerbell at the moment.

Like all of the other parts of the show, the action is lively and action packed.  Tinkerbell is trying to find out who she is and what her real talent is and the show moves seamlessly from Tinkerbell’s arrival to Pixie Hollow to her dealings with the cheeky sprinting thistles.  All of the favourite characters are there from Fairy Mary, the nature fairies and Terence too.

After a short break which is very wise with so many children in the building, we move to Andy’s playroom where we find Andy all grown up and sorting out his toys before he goes to college.

Judging by the cheers from the crowd, Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear still have it and this lively re-enactment of Toy Story 3 is very cleverly put together and once again, the costumes, props and scenery are spectacular.  I particularly liked Ken and Barbie and the scene where Ken is trying on some of his outfits for Barbie is hilarious.

And in case you were wondering, there were a few of the bad guys too like Lotso, the strawberry scented bear.

It certainly was a fun-packed two hours and all three of the children sat enthralled through out.  It is such a spectacular show; fast moving, colourful and fun and with great familiar songs that you could sing along with and stories and characters that we all recognised. It is so amazing in fact that you do forget that this show is on ice and there is some outstanding skating performances throughout the show.  The really lovely thing was that it appealed to all of the children; A is four and obsessed with all things Disney but the addition of Cars and Toy Story also made this a great show for boys and both of mine came away saying that they would like to go again next year.

I would definitely recommend it as great family entertainment and we are already looking forward to Disney on Ice – 100 Years of Magic which tours later this year.
