Hot Wheels have made many appearances over the years in this house and even though the boys are getting older now and play with toys less, they cannot resist a good Hot Wheels track and neither it would seem can their sister.
We were sent two of the new Hot Wheels Track Builder System sets to review; the 5 Lane Tower Starter Set and the Daredevil Drop Stunt Set. The Track Builder system looks pretty impressive and there are a wide range of sets for 2014 that can be joined together to create the ultimate track with different stunts, hoops and drops. Both boys were gazing longingly at the pictures of the ultimate set on the box and are very keen to have the whole set.
The 5 Lane Tower Starter Set is a great set on it’s own. The central tower is tall and has space to attach five tracks and comes with four tracks. The top two tracks are the most popular in this house and form a race track with finishing blocks with a chequered flag at the bottom. Once ready to race, you place the cars at the top of each track where it rests behind a red starting block and all of these are released at the same time by pushing the Hot Wheels sign on the top of the tower. All of the children have raced each other on these tracks and the flag comes down on the winning side which avoids any arguments as to the winner each time. The remaining two tracks are interchangeable and easily attach to any of the additional sets. The set also comes with the obligatory Hot Wheels car and the boys liked the new design and the only argument we had were over who had the “cool car”.
The Daredevil Drop Stunt Set is easy to put together and attaches easily to the tracks on the tower. It enables you to drop the car down the vertical ramp and the boys enjoyed seeing who could get it to go the fastest or furthest.
The set was really easy to put together and the new connectors are easy to use and also hold the tracks firmly together. The instructions were easy to follow and R built most of the tracks and put all of the stickers on for me. six days later, the set has been played with a lot and it is still firmly connected together.
A was certainly not going to be outdone. She has played with this set as much as the boys and it has been nice to see her enjoying the cars, so this set is also great for girls too. Like the Hot Wheels sets that we have had in the past, I have been impressed with both sets; easy to set up and take down, is sturdy and also easy to store as it breaks back down into fairly small pieces and good value too. For me the fact that it has been played with every day by all three children speaks for itself.
