Last night I watched a thunder storm. It was the most amazing storm that I have ever seen. The power of nature wielding its mighty sword. It was quite incredible, the persistent lightening lit the whole night sky and the thunder boomed and rumbled angrily for much longer than usual.
In spite of the early hour, I was drawn to it and watched it with great fascination, watching the sudden deluge of rain drench everything in its path.
When I was younger, I had a ridiculous fear of thunder storms. The first sound of thunder would send me scurrying to the comfort of a hiding place where would sit, hugging my knees, face buried, in the hope that it would soon go away.
As I have grown older, the fear has lessened but storms still scare me, unsettle me, I don’t like them. Tonight was like an epiphany. It was so beautiful and powerful. I watched the perfect features of my sleeping children illuminated as the flashes of light filled their rooms.
The storm raged on and must have been overhead as the house shook with each rumble of thunder. Yet I felt calm and safe. The boys woke up and I gave them each a big cuddle. We chatted about the storm and watched the lightening. We tried to count in between the claps of thunder and eventually it faded into the distance, leaving only a faint rumble and the flashes in the distance reminded me of fireworks.
Their breathing soon settled back into a sleeping pattern and I quietly crept back into my bed. There are lots of things in the world to be fearful of but maybe storms are something to behold and enjoy.
We have a lot of stormy times ahead but somehow tonight made me realise that I can take a deep breath and face them.

Fab post. It really was spectacular last night. I never really understand people being frightened of storms when they’re indoors (although I would totally be scared outside!). My eldest woke up and was bouncing round the house in excitement. The younger two slept through it, which I’m rather pleased about as my daughter would definitely have ended up in our bed!

I always want to be indoors when there’s a storm. I think we didn’t get too much of it but it was definitely really really loud. Sounds like it was a spectacular sight from your end!
