What has Summer 2015 taught me?

September 3, 2015 in Life, Parenting

What has summer 2015 taught me?

That six and a half weeks holiday is a very long time.

I like my children a tiny bit more when they are at school.

Eleven year old boys can talk about their hair nonstop for three days.

Eleven year old boys can do their hair nonstop.

Going cold turkey is the only way to wean an eleven year old off a Minecraft obsession.

Instagram is THE only thing you need in your life (if you are 10 and 11).

I really dislike YouTube.

Disneyland Paris in the summer is just a tad busy.  (For ‘just a tad’ read extremely).

I could win an Olympic medal for entertaining my children in a queue.

I can easily embarrass my children just by singing ‘Let It Go’ at the top of my voice in public.  Come to think of it, I think I may have embarrassed myself with that one too.

France may be the country of great cuisine, but I love good old British food the best of all.

Argos is one of the mysteries of the modern shopping world as far as my children are concerned.

My husband’s snoring is most definitely not improving with age.

My eldest son is a fabulous photographer.  Armed with only an iPhone, he took the most beautiful photos on his trip to New Zealand.

I can survive with one of my children on the other side of the world.

I can survive for several days without blogging and social media.  (Who knew?)

I love crochet.  I am rubbish at it but I love it.

Children will pretty much do anything for money if they want something badly enough.

Five year old girls can never have too many clothes and shoes.

I’m getting better at decorating birthday cakes.

My children will eat spinach.

I now have three children in double figures and in October I will have children aged 5, 10 and 20.

Simple things are the things that make us the happiest.

My children can all wind each other up relentlessly, for six and a half weeks.

Did I mention that six and a half weeks is a long time?

Summer 2015

So that was my summer, what have you learned this summer?

Brilliant summary! In our case, it’s a 9 year old girl doing and talking about her hair constantly. I would go as far as to say it’s her main form of entertainment.
You’re so right about the Instagram and kids can really, really wind each other up in 7 weeks!
So glad to hear you’re coping without eldest. I was surprised I survived two of my boys being away for 12 days!
