Learning can be fun, especially if you are lucky enough to own a copy of The Terrific Times Table Book or The Great Grammar Book by Jennie Maizels and Kate Petty. Both books are instantly appealing to children with their brightly coloured covers, but the real magic happens when you open the books.
Each page is totally unique with beautiful illustrations which are fascinating but that isn’t all. Each page it also totally interactive with flaps to lift, tabs to pull and wheels to turn and each time you look at a page, you will spot something new and some of the pages are pop-up for extra fun. Perfect for little minds that are always on the go.
My daughter is six and just about to start Year 2, so both of the books fit in with her learning now and will continue to be relevant for the next few years, making them a perfect addition to her bookshelf. She already loves them and we have been looking at them at bedtime over the last few weeks.
The Great Grammar Book
The Great Grammar book breaks down grammar basics into manageable chunks and it is so well-thought out, it makes learning fun and easy.
Read a story to learn about nouns, take a trip to the beach with some verbs, make weird and wonderful creatures using adjectives and take a look in the mirror to find out about pronouns. These are just a few of the wonderful ways that this book teaches you about grammar.
My favourite page is all about prepositions and it is a pop-up page where you take Pipsqueak the dog for a walk to learn all about prepositions. It is such a genius way of teaching prepositions.
The Terrific Times Tables Book
Starting from zero and going up to 12, The Terrific Times Tables Book is the perfect companion for a child learning their times tables. Each page gives you hints and tips to help you learn that times table and each is represented in a colourful and different away.
My daughter absolutely loves this book. She is just embarking on her times tables journey and even though she is only learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables at the moment, it was really good to start looking at the other tables as well. There are some really useful tips to help learn your times tables such as using your fingers to learn the 9s which was a new one on me but such a clever idea.
Similar to The Great Grammar Book, The Terrific Times Table book is totally interactive with something totally different on each page.
My daughter absolutely loves these books. I do too. The thought and detail that has gone into creating the books is amazing and it makes reading them a real adventure. As a parent, I think that anything that makes learning fun is always a bonus and I know that these books will be read and dipped into a lot over the next few years.

I LOVE Jennie and all her work. We have all her books (yes even the original grammar book). Mini is a BIG fan of her London stuff.
These are some of the most beautiful books I have ever seen but the best thing is that the books are educational as well!

These look fantastic, Spud use to struggle with his timetable but has got a lot better, although not quite there yet, his school sent home a massive folder of work for him to get through over the summer holidays and he’s not touched one bit due to me not allowing him too, school stresses him out and I hate his schools way of learning so I think I’m going to get this book (the timetables one) and send it to school with him! As for grammar, he’s quite good at that however we can never stop learning x
