With spring in the air, I am in the middle of one of the biggest sort outs we have ever had and I am feeling inspired to give our house some much-needed love and attention.  The last two years have been taken up with bedroom makeovers and changes, so this year there are two rooms in the house that have not even been redecorated since we moved in over ten years ago, the living room and what has become a study (come throw everything else that doesn’t have a home room) In addition to the lack of decorating, throw in the wear and tear of bringing up children and these rooms are really in need of some work.  So over the next few weeks, I will be getting out my paintbrush and making it all look nice and fresh again.

As well as painting, I was keen to add in a few new pieces of furniture and accessories.  New sofas are on order and I have bought the cutest desk for the study.  I had been thinking about what to put on the walls, I am slightly obsessed with photos but I was inspired by Wayfair to consider creating a gallery wall with prints from  The Art Group range.

So what exactly is a gallery wall?

It is a wall where you display all of those things that matter most to you; pictures, images, paintings, photos, mirrors, whatever you like.  Gallery walls are a key trend in interiors at the moment and Pinterest is full of fabulous ideas if you are looking for inspiration. The joy of a gallery wall is that you can display as many or as few things as you like and you hang images quite close together and pretty much anything goes. You can make a gallery with or without a theme, the same colours or completely different, you can add in different sizes, styles and textures and the order can be random or symmetrical. One tip that I would say is that once you have everything ready to put up, it is worth working out the order you want to put things in on the floor first to make it easier to then transfer your gallery onto the wall.  My second tip is to hand the larger items first.

Anyway, back to my soon to be lovely living room.  One thing that has been missing from this room is a clock.  Sure enough, there is a TV and various devices that tell us the time, but I do love an analogue clock on the wall.  My mum is obsessed with clocks, so I guess some of that passed on to me as I do like a clock in every room.

Before I chose any artwork to go on the wall, I chose a clock.  As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one.  Parisian style, with gorgeous bold colours and a good size, I couldn’t resist the  AMSUhrenfabrik 50cm Analogue Wall Clock. I love it.  It is big, bold and has real style and it goes perfectly with the new colour scheme in the living room.

From that, I chose wall art to go with it.  The images had to be something that meant something to me and I also looked to see if the colours would work with the clock.

I am so thrilled with the artwork.  Each one reflects something special; Spring Morning by Janet Bell is a canvas which depicts a beach scene in beautiful spring colours.  It is reminiscent of many beaches we have visited over the years and it is an image that will always make me smile. 

My husband and I recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and we spent a wonderfully rare morning without the children exploring the beach.  I drew a heart in the sand and wrote our initials along with est.2001.  So when I saw  Love Goes On Forever by Ian Winstanley, I knew that I had to have it for my gallery wall.

My final choice was something completely different and in the spirit of my gallery wall, it is a canvas depicting the  Paris Skyline by Summer Thornton. Paris is my favourite city in the world and where my husband proposed to me, so again an image that evokes very special memories.

So after much moving around on the floor, I decided on a layout for my wall and added a couple of canvasses that I already had that are special to me and I am really pleased with the finished result.  It makes a real feature of the wall and works well with the colour scheme and makes a change from my usual photos that I have everywhere else.

Now I’m off to look around the house for another wall to transform as gallery walls are my new favourite thing.
