Creating Tastier Picnics with Tracklements

July 23, 2018 in Reviewing

When it comes to adding a bit of extra zing to any meal, whether it be a humble sandwich or a plate of steak and chips, Tracklements is the way to do it in style.  With a range of products that would tickle any taste buds, Tracklements have a fantastic range of sauces, chutneys, pickles, relishes and more.  They have genuinely been a favourite of mine for many years and this time of year, especially, they are the perfect accompaniment to any picnic.

Tracklements Website

Tracklements describe themselves as Curious Curators of Culinary Condiments and their story began in 1970 when the founder William Tullberg found a recipe for mustard in John Evelyn’s 17th-century diary and tried his hand at making mustard. From those humble beginnings, the company grew and nearly 50 years later, Tracklements is still in the family and produces over 60 different products that are shipped worldwide. Everything is still made by hand in small batches, using traditional recipes and when you try Tracklements you can tell.  Nicely packaged, they look, smell and taste amazing and it is always nice to discover British family-run companies.

When it comes to picnics, I have a few favourite Tracklement products.  First up are the Original Onion Marmalade and the Red Onion Caramelised Red Onion Relish.  Trust me when I tell you that both of these are seriously addictive.

One of my favourite sandwiches is of all time is brie and bacon and I tried to recreate a favourite coffee chain version using the Tracklements Caramelised Red Onion Relish and it was perfect.  Crispy bacon, slightly melted brie, fresh bread all topped with the relish makes the best sandwich ever.  Seriously, you have to try it.

The Original Onion Marmalade is perfect with sausages or nice on pate or cheese. If I am creating a picnic in a hurry, I will often pack some crackers and possible toppings such as cheese, ham or pate so that we can make our own lunch as we want.  Both mustard and the Original Onion Marmalade are great to add a dab on top for extra flavour.

Cheese and pickle is a match made in heaven and made even more heavenly with this delicious Perfect Ploughman’s Pickle from Tracklements.  Cheese and pickle sandwiches were the main staple of my childhood lunchbox and I still love them today.  No picnic would be the same without them.

These days I like my cheese and pickle on a really nice bread, maybe a sourdough or a speciality bread with some cheese and pickle on top.  Yummy.

Mustard is a summer store cupboard staple to add some extra taste to sandwiches, cold meats, pastry products or to whip up a quick salad dressing. Two of my favourite mustards from Tracklements are the British Beer Mustard and the Spiced Honey Mustard.

I love to spice up my picnics with some Indian specialities.  Samosas, bhajis and pakoras make perfect finger food and I love to add some crunch with mini poppadoms.

You cannot have poppadoms without mango chutney if that isn’t the law, it should be. Tracklements have that covered too with their Indian Mango Chutney. Perfectly sweet and moreish with good sized chunks of mango, don’t take the whole jar as you will eat the lot.

And let’s not forget the humble barbecue.  We love a good barbie in the summer months and you can’t have a barbecue without tomato ketchup.  Trust me when I say that Tracklements Proper Tomato Ketchup is the best around.  It has a thick texture and a rich intense tomato flavour which adds so much flavour to burgers, hot dogs, bacon, chicken and more.

My family are real connaisseurs of tomato ketchup and they all loved this one and it is delicious in both bacon sandwiches and burgers.

Tracklements have many more products in their amazing range, these are just my favourites but I would definitely recommend you adding some Tracklements products to your shopping list this summer to help create some tastier picnics.
