It is there in the background, isn’t it? The C word. My daughter is already starting to think about the things she would like for Chrimbo and the toy adverts on TV are suddenly the cause of great interest.
One of her longstanding favourite toys are the Hatchimals CollEGGtibles. We were there in the very beginning with the launch of Season 1, added a few more with Season 2 and she has been dropping quite a few not so subtle hints that she would rather like some from Season 3 to add to her collection.
What are Hatchimals CollEGGtibles?
The clue is in the name. My daughter was fascinated by the fact that the name has the word EGG in capitals in it. She asked me why. Because they all come in their own cute little EGGS of course.
Each egg contains a tiny Hatchimal which is a mash-up of two animals. They are so cute and the word “adorable’ is said a lot when my daughter is hatching any new ones. They all have tiny glittery wings and there are common, rare, ultra rare and limited edition Hatchimals to collect. They have wonderful names such as ‘Platypiper’, ‘Breezy Zebrush’ and ‘Shimmering Chickchaff’ to name just a few.
The Hatchimals CollEGGtibles are from the fictional island of Hatchtopia and the creatures all belong to different parts of the island.
How do you hatch a Hatchimal CollEGGtible?
The Season 3 eggs are all yellow with different coloured speckles. The colour of the speckles is your first clue to who is inside as each colour represents the place where in Hatchtopia, your Hatchimal lives.
On the front of the egg are two overlapping hearts. This is where you rub the egg until the purple heart changes to pink and your egg is ready to hatch. It is really easy to break open the egg and see who is inside.
What is new for Season 3?
Lots more Hatchimals. With over 100 to collect, there is even more cuteness in this season. There are two clues to what’s new in Season 3. Firstly the new slogan “Hatch Friends Forever” and also the fact that there are two hearts on each egg, instead of one.
Each new Hatchimals CollEGGtible has a best friend. They are paired up on the Collector’s Map and can be posed together. It is great fun seeing if you can pair up your Hatchimals and my daughter was thrilled to find a few pairings in her eggs.
The most exciting thing about Season 3, however, is that you might find twins in your eggs. When she hatched her first set of twins, I thought that she was going to spontaneously combust with excitement. The twin Hatchimals are slightly smaller and have wobbly heads which my daughter thought was hilarious.
We (and I say we as I got to hatch a couple too and it was really exciting!) hatched a wonderful collection which included three sets of twins, quite a few best friends and a rare and a limited edition. They make a very colourful collection.
Are there different sets to buy?
Hatchimals CollEGGtibles are available in single blind packs (RRP £2.99), a pack of two with a green nest (RRP £4.99), a pack of four with bonus character (RRP £9.99), a 12 pack Egg Carton (RRP £24.99) or a 2 pack Cloud Egg Carton (RRP £4.99).
There are also additional playlets (which have been bookmarked on my laptop by my daughter) such as a Nursery Playset or Secret Scene Playset and these look like a fun way to play with the Hatchimals too.
What do we think of Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Season 3?
I think it is fairly obvious that they have been a big hit in this house. I like them because they are fun. The whole process of hatching is really exciting and adding twins and pairs into the new eggs has taken it to a whole new level of excitement. It is also great when they discover an ultra rare or a limited edition to add to their collection. We had a couple today and one was fuzzy and soft to touch which my daughter loved.
The eggs, once hatched, can be used to create mini nests. There is a line where you can easily break the egg bits down to and then they can also be used as part of the play.
There are no batteries and lots of imaginative fun, so I think they are brilliant and they will make perfect stocking fillers.
My daughter is eight and still loves playing with toys. She particularly loves small toys and these are perfect for her, she has spent hours today creating a little Hatchtopia of her own and making up little role-plays with her Hatchimals from all three seasons. She loves them.
