Things to do with the kids in London this Autumn

We love a trip to London and I must admit, we don’t often go in the summer months as I prefer London during the autumn and winter time. There is something refreshing about strolling through the leaves Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens or even taking in the fantastic Christmas lights and displays from mid-November.

We are planning a ‘girl’s trip’ at some point in November and these are the things that are top of our list to do in London this Autumn and they are definitely going to get us in the mood for some festive fun too.

Christmas at Kew

I have never been to Kew Gardens and it is one place that I would love to visit as the photos I have seen are fantastic.  From 22nd November until early January, Kew Gardens is transformed into a glittering wonderland with a mile long trail through the gardens lit up with over a million lights.

The Luna Winter Cinema at Kensington Palace

Imagine sitting snuggled up watching your favourite festive films with the fabulous splendour of Kensington Palace in the background.  Well, that is exactly what you can do on selected evenings throughout December at Kensington Palace. Located at the Pavilion on the Orangery Lawn, The Luna Winter Cinema will be showing classics such as Love Actually, Home Alone and Elf and mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate will be served too.

And why not make your stay even better by not having to rush home and stay in the Park International Hotel in South Kensington, allowing you even more time to enjoy the sights of London for a second or even third day.

KidZania

KidZania is top of my list to take my daughter, I have read so many brilliant reviews and it sounds like the most exciting place to take kids.  KidZania is an indoor city where your kids get to be in charge.  With a wide range of real-life professions and activities to try, KidZania is suitable for kids aged 4 – 14 and whilst the activities are for kids, adults can watch (under 8s have to accompanied) and there are some areas where adults can participate.

Hogwarts in the Snow at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter

Harry Potter fans young and old will all love the experience of Warner Bros. Studio – The Making of Harry Potter. Experience the making of each film with sets, props and costumes from the iconic films. But that isn’t all, you get a real behind the scenes tour seeing how special effects create magic and magical creatures onscreen along with models and drawings to show where it all started.  We visited just after it first opened and it was the most amazing day out and I know that there is, even more, to see and do there now.

Even better, if you visit from November 17th you get to experience the try festive experience of Hogwarts in the Snow where sets and models alike get a truly magical festive makeover.

Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park

From 23rd November Hyde Park is totally transformed into a Winter Wonderland where the whole family can find endless festive adventures.  With markets, an ice rink, shows, workshops and lots of exciting rides, this is the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and have a great family day out.

There is so much to do in London in the winter! We often visit in winter too, but usually end up just wandering around sightseeing, rather than going to any actual attractions. I’m not sure I could cope with outdoor cinema in winter – I went to one in summer and got frozen!
