As a parent, you have loads of different tasks on your plate. Some of them are pretty straightforward, and some of them take a little more work. One of the most tedious parts of parenting, however, is the bit where you have to convince your child to study or do homework. For most kids, school isn’t the most fun part of the day, so they’re more than content when the final bell rings and they can drop everything! Getting them to switch on again while they’re home is a pretty rough task at times. The negotiations never go exactly how you’d like!
Homework has to be done, though, so you have to win the dual and get them firing through their studies! Some kids are pretty obedient and will actually want to get everything handled. Most like to leave it until the last minute, however. Wouldn’t it be great if, as parents, we could convince our kids to get everything done quickly and efficiently without any fuss at all? Well, we can! It doesn’t have to be a gruelling process; there are actually pretty simple ways to make it happen. Here are five for you to digest:
Approach It Positively
If you’re miserable and negative all of the time, then your child is going to mirror your image. That goes for most things in life, but it becomes emphasized when it’s regarding something that they seriously don’t want to do. Approach the likes of schooling and homework with a bubbly attitude; make them want to do it. You don’t even have to mention anything in particular; your buzzed attitude only will help out a lot.
Create An Office Or Class Environment
If they’re sat in front of the TV or a screen all day, then it’s going to be even more difficult for them to get their work done. Have you ever tried being productive on the couch? It never, ever pans out, does it? If you have a spare room, then perhaps you could add a desk, some Educational Furniture, and some stationary to do it in order to create a professional and serious study room. When someone sits in a purpose-built area, they’re more likely to work towards that purpose.
Help Out
Kids can find it pretty difficult to sit still and stare at a textbook for hours. They need that extra stimulus around them to motivate them. You can be that helper. You’re probably going to know more than him or her, so sitting with them and guiding them through everything will make them more interested in actually doing the work.
Limit Game, Phone, And Tablet Time
In this day and age, kids are perpetually glued to things like video games and smartphones. While it’s not a massive problem in this first world, it can be a real distraction. You don’t have to be too totalitarian, but setting certain times and letting them know when they need to study wouldn’t be a terrible idea.
Provide Rewards
Finally, if you need to get them to hit deadlines, then you could do worse than giving them little presents and rewards to say well done. Sometimes, kids will just not want to do something – they can be pretty stubborn like that, huh? Instead of shouting at them and being strict, you could approach it differently and make them happier. Being a disciplinarian all the time can result in your kids disliking you!
