One word that my daughter uses a lot to describe many things is ‘satisfying’. She loves satisfying things and that usually covers things that are squishy, squashy and soft. I wasn’t at all surprised when she said that Foam Alive from Character was satisfying and I can see why she would think so.
Foam Alive is soft, squishy foamy fluff that literally comes alive when you move or handle it. The double flip pack comes with two separate colours in a cool container shaped like an hour glass. The idea of the container is firstly so that you can see how Foam Alive works when you tip the hourglass upside down. Secondly, it is the perfect container to store your foam in when you have finished playing with it. I am personally a big fan of anything that comes with its own storage. It is worth remembering that the Foam Alive only responds in the hour glass if the room is fairly warm, we kept it in the coldest room and it refused to work until it had warmed up a little.
What I am not a fan of, however is messy things. I have to admit when we first took out the Foam Alive, I was a bit worried about how messy it would be but so far, I can say that there has been no mess at all. If you do drop any on the floor or carpet, you can simply scoop it back up into the container and it doesn’t leave any mess behind at all.
Foam Alive is really therapeutic. My daughter just loves the way it feels and has spent a lot of time just letting it run through her fingers. The colours are lovely and bright and she decided to keep the colours separate. It can be used to create shapes and patterns too if you want to but they won’t stay in shape for long. As soon as you make a shape with them, it starts to move and erupt, it is really interesting to watch and play with.
What is really amazing about Foam Alive is how it flows and moves. They call this Flow Motion. It does quite literally come to life in your hands and it seems as though it is moving through your fingers. It is really soft to the touch, dry feeling and not at all sticky. If you forget to leave it out, don’t worry as it will be just as good to play with the next day as it doesn’t dry out. The only thing that would improve this set would be to have a double opening lid at the top so that you could get the colours out separately, my daughter was neurotic about keeping the colours separate and that is quite hard when you tip them out at the same time.
