Turn Any House into a Home

Some houses instantly feel like home. From the moment you enter, they feel warm, friendly and comfortable. Other houses, although they may be perfect for you and your family, don’t feel as instantly inviting, but that’s not a problem because there are lots of things you can do to make any house feel more like a home…

Reconfigure the Space

One thing that can be surprisingly effective when it comes to transforming a house into a home is reconfiguring the space. For example, you may find that you prefer to eat in the kitchen, so turning the dining room into a place where the kids can have their own living space works for you, or you may find that moving the couches so they face the fireplace and each other is better for family interactions. You may even find that hiring Residential Architects to convert the loft space or add an extension makes a huge amount of difference. The spaces in houses are not set in stone, so do what works best for you.

Hang Pictures

A really easy way to make your house feel more like a home is to hang lots of pictures. Obviously, hanging pictures of your friends and family is instantly transformational but hanging your favourite paintings, prints and other pieces of artwork can be almost as effective. If you like to look at it, give it a place in your home and see it be transformed.

Another obvious point to consider is redecoration. So many homes now have the same shades of white, grey and cream on every wall, and that is great if you like it, but if you’re more into colour, adding a brighter feature wall, wallpapering to create a focal point, or even redecorating the house in its entirety will make it feel more special to you.

Add Texture

Adding more texture to your home in the form of warming rugs, cosy blankets and cute cushions is an easy way to make the space more homely with the added bonus that you’ll always feel really comfy too.

Plant Power

Your favourite plants and flowers can really lift the space. It has been shown that the presence of plants and flowers indoors can ease stress and help us to feel calmer. Many plants can also clean the air, so they really are a must-have in any home. If you struggle to keep your plants alive, choose something easy-to-care-for like succulents and cacti and you’ll soon be a convert.

Save Souvenirs

Souvenirs of your life, when dotted around your house, will give you a warm feeling whenever you look at them and they invoke memories of past joys. Souvenirs don’t just have to be from great holidays either -they can include books you’ve loved, posters for gigs you’ve attended, clothes you’ve worn and loved, and well just about anything you can think of. Display them with pride and feel more at home than ever before!

Have fun turning your house into a home and enjoy every moment you spend indoors!
