Being February, it’s bound to be cold and drizzly wherever you are and it’s filled with germs and sneezing – no matter what! The bugs are on their way in the winter, and with the temperatures being indecisively up and down, it’s often hard to hide from the germs and lurgies that are hovering, ready to be sucked up into your nostrils!
Winter bugs cover all colds and viruses through the winter. Some winter bugs also keep you on the toilet a lot longer than you had planned – not ideal when you have work to do! You can arm yourself with diarrhea tablets and anti-sickness meds, and you can cover your house with preemptive boxes of tissues. However, when you have a bug in the house it’s going to spread, which means that you need to do everything in your power to stop it in its tracks. With that in mind, here are some of the ways that you can get through this phase and eliminate those winter bugs!
- Practice Good Hygiene
From hand washing regularly to using hand sanitizer wherever you go, you need to practice good hygiene. People touch doorknobs and desks, elevator buttons and handles after sneezing and it’s those who don’t use sanitizer or wash their hands effectively that cause the problem. You can stop yourself spreading germs when you wash your hands enough.
- Boost The Good Bugs
You can’t always eliminate the possibility of catching a stomach virus or a cold, but you can boost your own immune system with supplements and plenty of good vitamins every day. An example being mushroom supplements, which are an excellent source of nutrients which naturally support your body, in particular your immune and digestive system. With a body filled with good bacteria, you can start to kill the bad bacteria.
- Sleep Well
If you are suffering with chronic exhaustion and a lack of sleep, you are going to be more susceptible to bugs settling down when you don’t want them to settle. Your body needs to be rested to have a boosted immune system, and a lack of sleep lowers your immune system. Technically, if you don’t sleep enough, you’re asking for the bugs to settle into your system.
- Reduce Stress
Speaking of immune systems, did you know that stress can affect you? If you are stressed, you are lowering your immune system and leaving yourself vulnerable to any illnesses that fly your way. You need to find ways to relax so that your body can cope without a cold or vomiting bug this year, and you can help yourself by lowering your stress levels.
- Up Your Vitamins
From oily fish carrying hefty Omega-3s, to fruits and veggies that will give you a rainbow of vitamins on your plate, you need more of them. You need to boost your immune system to fight and it can fight far easier with the right vitamins and minerals on your side.
You do not have to suffer this winter. If you do find that you are dealing with bugs, rest as much as possible and take your medicine – the faster you get over this the better!
