Keeping Your Kids Occupied with Online Resources

The coronavirus pandemic has taken us all by surprise. Back in January, none of us could have ever guessed that much of 2020 would be taken up by a worldwide pandemic, taking hundreds of thousands of lives and causing countries around the world to go into a state of lockdown. Our day to day routines have changed dramatically, as everyone’s being encouraged to stay home wherever possible – not going to work, not sending the kids to school, keeping ourselves to ourselves and staying away from other people. Now, there are a number of difficulties and tragedies that have resulted from this. But it’s important to keep your chin up and focus on providing your kids with the best during these times. Their health, safety and happiness are a priority. Luckily, we’re living in the best age possible to handle this situation well. The rise of tech means many of us have some sort of internet-connected devices which can help us all through this pandemic well. Here are a few different ways that you can keep your kids occupied and stave off their boredom throughout this time!

Learning

One of our biggest concerns right now in regards to our kids is the quality of their education. They’re not at school and you may be worrying that they won’t be progressing as quickly as they should. Now, this shouldn’t be too much of a concern. At the end of the day, your little ones are in the same situation as any other kid in the country right now. They can’t fall behind when everyone else is on hold too. Instead, when they head back to school, education will be picked up where they left off. But you can still do your utmost to help them learn during their time at home. You don’t have to be a professional teacher yourself. Instead, research different learning resources and see what can help your kids right now. The best will vary according to your kids’ age.

Keeping In Touch with Friends and Family

We’re a couple of months into lockdown situations now. This means it’s been a long time since your little ones may have been able to see anyone who doesn’t live within your house. They’re bound to be missing their friends. They’re bound to be missing their extended family. Luckily, they can keep in touch without having to meet up with these people on a face to face basis. Instead, they can keep in touch virtually! There are various ways to do this. They can call, they can text, they can use your email address to send emails. But perhaps one of the most fun ways to keep in touch is video chat. There’s even group video chat available now through free apps like Zoom. Just make sure you know exactly who your kid is talking to at all times. Unfortunately, there are people out there with bad intentions who may try to reach out to your child for conversation. This can result in grooming and other dangerous interactions. So, make sure to thoroughly vet and check apps and other software your little ones are using and always be aware of who they are talking to. If your kids are of teen age, they might be more reluctant to show you their conversations. In these situations, you may want to consider spy software. Family Orbit has a list of high quality apps that will let you see what your kids are doing.

Entertainment

There’s so much kids’ entertainment available online nowadays. It’s a good idea to watch anything through yourself to ensure that it’s appropriate. But you can generally stream some great quality kids’ shows, films and access different online games too. This will keep a smile on your little ones’ faces and can make the hours pass each day much more quickly. Ask other parents for recommendations too. They may have found entertainment resources that you haven’t come across yourself.

These are just a few different online resources that could make all the difference to your little ones and to help them to make the most of their time during this lockdown period. By keeping them happy and entertained, and by keeping on top of their education, you can make things feel a lot more normal and pleasant than if they’re simply left to their own devices all day every day.
