The one thing that I wanted to achieve during lockdown was to finish crocheting a blanket that I started back in 2017. That may sound like a strange objective, world peace and a cure for Coronavirus might be a better goal but as I am not a scientist nor a miracle worker, crochet it was.
I have dabbled with crochet on and off for a few years. It was something that I had wanted to do for a long time. I started collecting ideas and patterns on Pinterest and I was feeling really inspired. When I saw the Spice of Life blanket, I fell in love with it. I loved the colours, I loved the pattern and even with my novice ability, I reckoned it was something I could have a go at.
Luckily, I was able to buy a pack with all of the wool required in it and using the pattern which is free online, I got started, using Youtube to help me with any new stitches and before I knew it, the blanket was growing and I was thrilled with the result. By February I was already nearly half way and totally inspired keep going.

Then the summer came, things were hectic and to be honest, I put my crochet bag away and forgot all about it. Every now and then, I picked it up again, but other things got in the way. But I suppose that is the beauty of a project like this, you can pick it up whenever you have time.
I am ashamed to say that I finished the main body of the blanket over a year ago. It was the sewing in of the ends that took the time. This is my least favourite part and I would pick it up, sew in a handful of ends and then move on.
A year later and I was asked to try out a simple crochet project for LoveCrafts and then I spotted another blanket that I wanted to do. I ordered the wool and the pattern and when it arrived, I felt guilty that my Spice of Life blanket was still sat there. I decided that I had to finish this blanket before starting anything new. Along came lockdown and this seemed the perfect time. The sewing in of the ends took a long time, but it was worth it to be able to do the border. And then it was done. I am so proud of it. It isn’t perfect but it doesn’t matter as creating something yourself gives you the most incredible sense of satisfaction and also I am learning from the mistakes I make as I go along (for example if it says change hook size, you really should, to keep everything even).
What do you think? If you fancy a go at the Spice of Life blanket, you can find the free pattern here and also find the different colour packs of wool to order ready to do the project.
I have now started my next blanket which I am sure I will share once I get going with it but I am hopeful that this one won’t take over three years to complete!

Wow that is awesome. What a gorgeous blanket and well done sticking with it. xxx
It’s so beautiful, congratulations!
