If you have a playroom, or a space in a room that is used as one, then it can be such a help, as it can be a great place to store all of your child’s toys, games, and little bits. Although storage is a really important aspect of a playroom, there are some other aspects that you shouldn’t forget about, in order to create an ideal playroom. Toys can get pretty messy, and when they are in the hands of little ones, it can go from organised to chaos in a matter of seconds. So here are some things that will help you to create an ideal playroom.
Sort, donate and bin
When it comes to the playroom, there is no point in it being full up with junk toys, or ones that they have outgrown, don’t play with, or that are just broken. So take stock of what toys and games you have, and sort out what you want to keep, and what you don’t want to keep. There should be a keep pile, a donate pile, for things in good condition but that you don’t want, and a bin pile. It can be hard, as some things will have such sentimental value, so try to do it without emotion, otherwise you could end up with a really full playroom!
Practical features
Having a playroom with some practical features in it is a really obvious need. When there are lots of practical features, then it will help a lot. Think about the flooring, for example. Carpet can be comfortable, but it isn’t going to be the best option with paint and slime, for example. So thinking about wooden floors, or other flooring that can be wiped clean, helps to make the cleaning much easier, being much more practical. Of course, for comfort, think about some padded play tiles for the floor, or even get something like beanbags. If you look up some bean bags for schools then it will give you a good idea about what will work in a playroom. So just think things that are practical, have storage, double up features, and can be wiped clean, and you’ll be onto a good thing.
Plan the room
Planning out your room is where you need to think about your budget, and where it all comes into play. Unless you have a huge budget for it, then you need to plan ahead to know what goes where, and what you will need to buy, in order to see your dreams become a reality. Then you can sort out, organise, and plan it all out. At this stage, it can be a good idea to think about what talents you have to make the playroom look the way you want it. You may not have enough money in the budget for new shelving, however, you might be quite handy with some wood and a jigsaw, or to sew storage bags, for example. You could also refurbish furniture that you already have, and make it suit the playroom.
