Summer is well and truly here! And despite the impact that the pandemic might have had on our travel plans this year, summer 2020 definitely hasn’t been cancelled just yet. Even though we are slowly coming out of lockdown and have been given the green light to head abroad to Europe for our summer breaks, many are choosing to play it safe and stay at home. With the staycation set to become the holiday trend of the year, local hotspots are expected to experience a massive boom this summer.
A real vacation doesn’t have to mean going abroad – here are just five of the many reasons why you should consider holidaying at home this year.
It lets you bring your pet
If you are a pet owner, you will be familiar with the hassle and stress of leaving your beloved pets in a kennel or trying to find someone to look after them while you are away who you trust to take care of your fur baby properly. With a staycation, this is one less thing to worry about! Bring your pets along with you for the adventure – it’s an excellent opportunity to go on holiday with them for once and create memories that the whole family will remember for years to come. You won’t have to suffer from any guilt or separation anxiety, and neither will your furry friend. After all, they deserve a holiday too – with all of the long walks and outdoor activities, your dog will be in heaven.
It minimises your travel time
Travelling to and from the airport, followed by worries about passport control and security, a long plane journey, and then getting to your destination on the other side can be pretty exhausting. On the other hand, a staycation in your own country is guaranteed to cut down your travel time, meaning that you can relax for longer and won’t feel like you need some more time off to rest from the holiday you have just had. And if you are thinking of travelling a little further in, or around the country, then a caravan hire is a great option, allowing you to make stops and rest along the way in your own mobile home on wheels, while enjoying the places around you.
It helps your economy
By choosing to holiday at home, you are bringing revenue to the economy and supporting your local communities. Local restaurants, campsites, shops, cottage rentals, and hotels will reap the benefits of their own visiting them – something that has become increasingly important due to the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on our economies and local businesses.
It helps you to save money
And speaking of the economy and money, a staycation will definitely benefit your own finances, allowing you to holiday for cheaper. Now that you don’t have to think about expensive flights, tour costs, hotel fees, and having to pay lots of money for costly drinks on the beach, you are likely to save hundreds. Put this extra money aside for a rainy day, towards your next holiday abroad or back into your home via some renovations.
It gives you more time to actually relax
While travelling abroad is great, and definitely has its perks, it can also be pretty stressful requiring lots of travelling, lots of packing, lots of planning and potential stressful language barriers. With a staycation, most of this is cut down to zero, leaving you free to enjoy your holiday in peace, whether that’s watching some Netflix in a rental with a glass of wine, a day at the beach or a relaxing hike. You are also likely to use less technology, which will give you the chance to truly unplug and connect with your surroundings and enjoy your time with those around you.
