4 Dangers of Not Getting Enough Sleep

September 16, 2020 in Living

Does anyone else ever feel bad for going to sleep, even when you know you need to? It’s something that affects a lot of people. They believe that every minute spent asleep is a minute wasted. While this might make them more productive in the short term, it can have ruinous effects for their long-term health and relationships. If this sounds anything like you, check out these four dangers of not getting enough sleep so you can start making some changes.

Brain Fog

Brain fog is where it feels impossible to concentrate on anything around us. We are easily distracted. We struggle to maintain a conversation or even a coherent thought. Many people will experience minor brain fog just after waking up. However, there’s nothing that a cold glass of water and coffee can’t fix.

Despite this, those who don’t get enough sleep regularly will suffer from brain fog all day, and this can severely impact their performance at work, and even lead to accidents. If you don’t feel 100% focused when driving, you risk being involved in a collision, and that’s not something you want to happen.

Constant Irritation

Many people are a little moody when they first wake up. Again, it’s something they can get over quickly. They’re likely not a morning person. Too little sleep, though, will make this foul mood last from morning until night.

No one wants to be an unpleasant person, but if every little thing irritates you, people are unlikely to want to be around you. Such irritation will impact your relationships both at work and at home, as well as with strangers. You wouldn’t want someone to take their bad mood out on you, so make sure you get your 40 winks.

Weight Gain

Weight gain is not something that people readily accept. They always come up witty excuses, like the dryer shrinking their clothes, for example. People also don’t associate a lack of sleep with weight gain, but it can have an impact.

This is because of chemical imbalances in the brain, meaning you won’t realise you’re full even if you are. This causes you to eat more than you need to, which will cause you to put on weight, and as you’re so exhausted, you won’t have the energy to burn it off.

Weak Immunity

Weak immunity is not something you want, especially not in this day and age. Your body is so exhausted that it can’t fight off everyday illnesses, such as common colds or the flu.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways for you to make sure you get enough sleep. Exercise is one of the most popular options, as is cultivating a consistent bedtime routine. You can also use CBD oil for better quality sleep, especially if you’ve exhausted all other options. As it’s your health on the line, it’s imperative.

A Lack of Sleep

Once upon a time, the thought of going to sleep probably seemed boring. You’re not a teenager anymore, though, and you need rest to make sure you can function at your best all day, every day. Considering the range of issues associated with a lack of sleep, you owe it to yourself and others to make sure you don’t burn the candle at both ends, and you’ll soon see distinct changes in every aspect of your life.
