9 reasons why face masks are a good thing

September 8, 2020 in Living

Face masks.  The new normal.  Are you sick of people using that phrase yet? I am.  So I promise not to use it again.  Face masks on the other had, I would love not to use again, but unless I want to live the life of a hermit, there is no getting away from them.

But they aren’t pleasant are they, certainly not the easiest things to wear, especially if, like me, you wear glasses.

However, in an effort to look on the bright side, as face masks are here to stay for the time being, I have been considering whether wearing face masks is beneficial to more than just our health.

Face masks are going to save you money

Bear with me on this one.  Yes, you do have to purchase said face masks which is an inconvenience, but, how many times have you, already, tried to pop to the shop, nip into the cafe for a coffee  or drop into the supermarket only to realise that you have forgotten your mask.  For me, that would be about 100 times.  It is so annoying.  However, most of the those times, I have decided that it is just too much of a pain to go and get a mask so I am certain I must have saved a fortune.  Maybe I need to set up a ‘if I hadn’t forgotten my mask’ jar and put in the money I would have spent to see if I can’t save a few pounds.

You can sneakily eat sweets/crisps/fruit/vegetables (delete where appropriate) without your kids seeing you

The thing is I know that I should be a good role model and set good examples to my kids when it comes to eating.  However. I am only human and this human does love healthy food but sometimes I crave all the bad stuff. This is wear face masks come in so handy

You know if you have bad breath

Those mornings (or afternoons and evenings) when your mouth tastes like something has died in there, sadly usually mean that your pungent breath will knock people out cold.  Thankfully, no more do we have to do the weird hand cupping thing as masks will let us know in a matter of seconds whether we need to buy a lifetime supply of mints.

It basically acts like a disguise

I mean you aren’t exactly going to go and rob a bank in a face mask are you? Hopefully not, anyway. But if you pull that sexy darn thing up to your eyes, you are not particularly recognisable and if you have a hat or a hood up, you are pretty much unidentifiable. So make the most of it.  Go to the supermarket and fill your basket with all those things you would never usually dare to buy.

You can pull silly faces at people

In the same way as it can act as a disguise, it covers up a multitude of sins.  As I was inanely smiling at someone the other day with my mask on, the recipient didn’t even notice.  Of course, they wouldn’t would they, they can’t see you smiling.  I like to think that I can smile at people with my eyes, but that is a right load of rubbish.  So instead, why not pull faces at people or stick your tongue out at them, especially if they are particularly grumpy looking.  Just remember that blowing raspberries is both childish and not hidden by the wearing of face masks.  And yes I am talking from personal experience there.

They make it easier to avoid people

You know those times when you are in a massive rush or simply not in the mood for long chats with people and you see someone i the street and you don’t really want to stop and chat? These are the moments face masks were invented for (well that and to fight the spread of viruses).  Mask up, head down and you can pass unseen, it is like magic.

You don’t have to wear a lot of make-up

To be honest, what is the point?  Not only does the mask hide most of your face, when you remove, you remove half of your make up anyway, so why bother?

Who needs tissues?

Catch it, bin it, kill it.  In your mask.  Need I say more.  Although I would add that this might be expensive if you buy reusable masks.

Face masks can save lives

On a more serious note, face masks can seem like a right royal pain but at the end of the day, if they help keep us safe, they are amazing things and we should all get used to seeing the positives of wearing face masks and embrace this new way of life.

hahaha! This did make me chuckle. I was in town yesterday and I lost count of the times I pulled faces at people and mouthed things to them when they got too close or did stupid things. x

Love this! I’ve been smiling in my mask, but then realised it was pointless as nobody can see me! It’s great if you want to mutter some swear words to yourself or mouth the words to a song without looking like a weirdo too.
But generally like you I don’t like wearing it and I have to keep taking my glasses off because it’s making me go blind!
