4 Ways to Find a New Job in 2021

February 2, 2021 in Living

With everything that has happened around the world in the last 12 months, 2020 is not a year many people will look back fondly on. It was a tough time for people all over the globe. As well as the many casualties of the pandemic, many businesses shut their doors for good and thousands of jobs were lost across the country.

But with multiple vaccines being rolled out and the daylight getting longer, better times are on the way. Before long, the country will return to some semblance of normality, and we can start to move on with our lives. 2021 can provide a fresh start for anyone: a chance to change your life and work towards a brighter future. And one way to do that is by finding a new job. Whether you lost your previous employment due to the pandemic or are just looking for a career change, a new job could greatly improve your quality of life. It may offer more money, higher job satisfaction, or a more convenient situation to fit around your personal life.

But finding a job can be difficult. There are numerous stages to go through to land the perfect position, and there’s no guarantee that you won’t be beaten to the role by a more qualified candidate. To maximize your chances, it’s best to keep your options open and look for as many suitable roles as possible. But where do you start?

To help you make your career change, here are four ways to find a new job in 2021.

Job boards

The quickest and easiest way to find job opportunities is to browse career websites and online job boards. These will allow you to filter your searches by all kinds of criteria, such as title, salary, location, and contract type. You can look at general job boards from recruitment companies, or if you have a particular role in mind, you can look at more specific industry career sites. For example, if you are a delivery driver, you can bid for work on an online load board.

Recruitment agencies

If you’re struggling with your search, an excellent option is to speak to a recruitment agency. After talking to you about your skills, experience, and desired occupation, they will match you with the most suitable positions and employers.

Networking

Getting ahead in any industry is helped enormously if you know a lot of people. Make an effort to get out there and meet new contacts who are relevant to your desired profession. You can do this through industry events, reaching out on LinkedIn, or even just asking someone to introduce you. Having an extensive business network could open you up to many new job opportunities or helpful career advice.

Cold calling

Even if the companies you want to work for don’t have any listed vacancies on their website, that doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t hiring. Be proactive and cold call relevant companies to sell yourself. The worst that can happen is they say no, but at best, they will be impressed by your enterprising attitude and offer you an interview.
