As your children grow up you will always be looking out for their health and doing what’s best for them. When looking out for them, this can include things like making sure they get enough sleep, eating the correct foods, taking them to medical appointments and going to the dentist to help them fix crooked teeth (should they have some). There so many things to think about, as sometimes certain things are difficult to achieve on a daily basis, like eating your five a day. Below are four things to consider when looking after your children’s health.
Getting Enough Sleep
As your child grows up, they will always debate with you, trying to get a later bedtime. Getting enough sleep as a child is important as it will help them concentrate better at school and help improve their mood and how they behave at home. The amount of sleep that they need varies depending on their age which is why you can be a little more flexible as they get older. Sleep is extremely important no matter what your age, so always try and make sure your children are getting the correct amount of sleep.
Eating Correctly
How a child behaves can be affected by what they eat. Eating a good diet will help them get a better night’s sleep, reduce fatigue and help them concentrate more. Always aim to get as much fruit and vegetable in their breakfast, lunch and dinner as possible – One easy trick is to add vegetable to the sauce that you are cooking with, like vegetables in a stirfry, as they won’t realise it. I have many recipes that are easy to follow that you can try if you want to cook something new.
Exercise
As with adults, it’s the same with children, you should always try and be as active as possible daily. Whether you go on a long family walk together, or go to the park and run around, it’s important you are regularly exercising with your children and getting them active. Sometimes if they are having a bad day at home, misbehaving, the easiest thing to do is let them get over it playing football in the back garden, or jumping on a trampoline. Sports are also a great way for your children to meet new people, be sociable and make new friends.
Drinking Enough Water
Drinking enough water is something that is hard to achieve yourself, so chances are some children struggle to drink enough as well. Throughout the day, make sure your children are hydrated and drinking plenty of fluids. A child should aim to drink 6-8 small glasses a day. If you don’t think your children are achieving this, then try and have it in the back of your mind to encourage them to do so. For children, water helps their energy levels, as well as keeps them healthy and concentrate for longer periods of time.
What things do you do regularly to help your child’s health? Is there anything from the above that you find difficult to achieve? Let me know in the comment box below, I would love to hear from you.
