Taking the Pressure Out of the School Run: 4 Methods To Try

October 4, 2021 in Parenting

Every parent will empathize with the stress of getting ready for school. From getting the children ready to the dread of forgotten homework, there is no end to the little dramas that can make your morning the most stressful part of the day. So what can you do to make sure that the school run is as stress-free as possible?

Taking the Pressure Out of the School Run_ 4 Methods To Try

Look After Your Car

This is something that will make a massive difference. We’ve all driven past that car that’s broken down or hit a pothole on the way to school and you can see the stress on the parent’s face, because it’s the one thing they did not want so soon in the day! Always make sure that your car is in peak condition. It’s not hard, all you need to do is check the oil, the water levels, the tyre pressure, and of course, make sure that the petrol tank is up to a decent level. When it comes to making sure that your car is in peak condition, you need to have it serviced but also think about making your car sturdier in certain ways. Companies like Ozzy Tyres can always help with stronger tyres and better tread, which will make a massive difference to your daily commute.

Preparing Starts the Night Before

If you feel like you are on edge first thing in the morning, is this because you’re not doing enough preparation the night before? When there’s time pressure, everybody feels under pressure. Do everything you can to get everyone ready the night before. We should always do as much as we can that night before, such as packing the bags, making lunch, but also the homework. Having a little schedule for every evening will make a massive difference. And while it could take a while to get your children into the habit of doing homework as soon as they return from school, one of the benefits of doing this is that they will have a lot more free time later on. It takes a while, but it is certainly worth it.

Set a Countdown

When in doubt, you need to have regular alarms which can give your child frequent reminders of how long they have left to get ready. When you have young children that can’t tell the time, alarms are a great way to remind your child that they need to eat up or put their uniform on, etc.

Being Relaxed on the Journey Into School

This is so if you’ve got young children who are only in their first or second year of school. The school gate is one of those places that can be very anxiety-inducing. This is why it’s important for you to be as relaxed as possible when getting ready to leave the house. But also, it allows you the luxury of giving your child your complete attention. So if you think that queuing up for school is the ideal opportunity to be on your phone, keep it in your pocket until all the children are safely in their classroom!
