These Red Flags show that you are Working too Much

March 28, 2022 in Living

If you can’t help but think that your work is consuming every aspect of your life, then you should know that 40-50 hours of work is more than enough for most professionals. That being said, counting the hours that you are working can be somewhat deceiving. You have to think about the outside responsibilities that you have and the work environment you have. If you aren’t sure if you are working too hard or not, then you need to look out for some of the major signs. Some of which can be found below.

These Red Flags show that you are Working too Much

You Turn to Risky Behaviour

If you work for 40 hours a week or more then you may be more likely to adopt risky behaviour. You need to have downtime if you feel stressed as it gives you the chance to re-energise yourself. If you want to help yourself then it is a good idea for you to use your commute home to your advantage. Use it as a way to transition between your work and your home. If you take public transport, then try and stay away from screens if possible. Instead, play some music or listen to an audiobook. This will give you the chance to focus on letting your mind be free.

You’re in Pain

If you have wrist pain and you spend all day typing, then this is also a sign that you are putting in too many hours. It doesn’t matter if you have a genuine wrist condition or whether you suffer from repetitive strain because you have to start taking care of your body. If you don’t, then you may find that you end up putting yourself in harm’s way and this is the last thing that you need. If you need to see someone about your wrist pain, then Dr Simon Hutabarat is an expert in the field.

Your Productivity is Starting to Stall

If you have increased your working hours but you are yet to get good results from it, then you may find that your working hours are actually stunting your productivity. Research has found that those who work around 70 hours a week do not end up getting any more done in the day when compared to those who work 60 hours a week, so keep this in mind. If you want to do something about this, then you need to try and make a to-do list if you can. If you can do this, then you can stop yourself from getting overwhelmed. You may find that by trying to multi-task you end up getting less done and this is the last thing that you need.

You Aren’t Sleeping Well Enough

It is a very simple formula if you think about it. If you are up for longer, then you will find that you end up experiencing less sleep and more fatigue during the day. If you spend most of your time stressed during the workday, then you may find that it becomes incredibly difficult to calm down your mind at night, and this can put you at a higher risk of experiencing heart disease or even diabetes.
