There are a great deal of decisions that you have to make as an adult, and one of them is whether or not it’s the right time to have another baby. You’ve already got one, life is busy, but your heart is full. Is now a good time to have a baby? Well, the realistic answer is there is never a good time to have another baby, but there is always a good time for you. Having a second child and changing your current family dynamic is a big adjustment. You’re going to panic that you won’t love the baby enough, you’re going to panic that you will stop loving your first baby as much as you did, you’re even going to panic that you’ve made the wrong decision but by that point it’s too late.
Websites such as Mamabody can talk you through things like pregnancy and fertility and new babies, but nobody can actually make this decision for you. Realistically, you need to sit down and think of all of the reasons that you should say yes. Because you will always regret not having a second child at all compared to having a baby in the first place. With this in mind, here are some of the best reasons that you should go ahead and throw caution to the wind and have a second child.
- You’re doing much better than you think you are. One of the biggest things you can consider as apparent is that if you were thinking about a second child, your first one must be happy, healthy and doing really well. Pat on the back for you, Mama. Most mothers spend a lot of time worrying about how to get parenting right, but if they have a smiley, happy child, that’s all the right parenting you need to be doing. There’s no such thing as standards of parenting, except for those that the media have put out there. Instead of trying to live up to the expectations of a super mother, why not just consider the fact that you’ll have an amazing family and expanding that just expands your love?Image source: Pexels
- Your current child will have a sibling. There are plenty of very happy children out there who don’t have siblings. But how about your experience? Did you have a happy childhood with siblings or without them? Do other people have happy childhoods with siblings or without them? It’s going to depend on the people that you are raising and not whether or not you are adding to the dynamic. Your existing child is going to have a sibling to go out with, to fight with, to laugh with combat to play with and they’re going to love each other like best friends and worst enemies. All of these things that create a family life, can be born through both of your children.
- It’s a new baby. One of the reasons that women go on to have big families; It’s a beautiful, tiny little baby. All of the warm and cuddly and squishy, kissy goodness that comes from a tiny baby is one of the best reasons to say yes and have another one. All of those early days of aches and pains with a new child always are forgotten until you have another one, granted, but it’s a joy. That feeling of being full of total and utter joy because your baby is on your chest and you are breathing them in? That cannot be matched. It can be quite addictive to have another baby.
- You are in the swing of things. When you have one child or another child or another child, you are in the swing of it. You already understand what sleepless nights are in what teething is, what a poo nami is and how loudly a baby can scream. You know all of these things which means you are more than equipped and you are well within your groove, so having another baby is just going to change your life for the better and not the worst. You’ve navigated the baby rashes in the car seat installation and you’re ready. So why not say yes?
The new baby is going to change your family. It’s going to fill your heart. It’s going to change your life. Saying no right now is going to depend on outside circumstances like space, finances and the size of your car. But don’t take it off the table entirely if you look at your first child and long for those early newborn bubble days.
