Addiction Treatment: What Options Are Available?

September 7, 2023 in Living

Treatment for a substance use disorder can take place in a variety of different settings and conditions. Trying to get your life back on track after experiencing addiction problems usually requires professional intervention and guidance.

Many find that rehab centers can be helpful and an important step in the recovery process. There are other treatment options to consider too. Here is a look at some of the choices available.

A low-level outpatient option

All of the available treatment options need to be considered in relevance to your personal circumstances and needs. A professional assessment of those needs can often identify the best treatment option.

It might be that a low-intensity outpatient option might be suitable. This involves attending for less than ten hours per week at a special facility. The rest of your time is spent recovering at home. This allows you to continue with as normal life as possible while getting treatment help.

A more intensive outpatient option

If there are underlying medical or psychological issues that also need resolving it might be suggested that you undertake a more intensive outpatient program.

This usually involves somewhere between 10 and 20 hours of treatment. The rest of the time is spent at home and fitting in regular work or educational commitments.

A partial hospitalization program might be appropriate

Another option to consider would be a partial hospitalization program. This involves attending an addiction treatment program on a daily basis for somewhere between four and eight hours.

This sort of day treatment option can also be considered suitable for someone who has underlying mental health challenges.

Providing treatment in a residential setting

Residential rehab can be viewed as a medium to high-intensity treatment option. It is provided in a residential setting that is designed to be supportive and welcoming.

One of the advantages attached to this option is that it is geared up to adjust to patients progressing through different stages of recovery.

This provides a smoother transition between each stage and can help improve recovery times as a result of being in an intensive but supportive residential environment.

There is also the option for a higher-intensity inpatient treatment program. This level tends to cater to patients who have serious medical conditions and more substantial mental health challenges to contend with.

Different treatment services

As well as these different options it is also important to appreciate that there will be a comprehensive range of services offered that will be tailored to a patient’s individual needs.

Whether support is provided in the form of individual or group counselling, and whatever medication is required, these are all treatment options that will be discussed in length at the beginning of the process.

Whichever treatment option is offered, the level of support and emotional support needed will be provided. The road to recovery is never easy, but with the help of professional support and facilities, such as rehab, every patient will be given the best level of care and opportunity to recover from addiction.
