When you do a job or lead a life where you are on your feet for most of the day, it can can sometimes feel like your feet bear the brunt of it and I know that in my job, by the end of the day, my feet seriously need some time out. As you get older, the impact of being on your feet a lot during the day can take it’s toll due to a number of factors but there are steps you can take to take care of your feet.
Invest in Gel Insoles
Gel insoles are a must when you need to ease tired feet. Firstly, they make walking and standing more comfortable by providing a cushion for your feet. Not only that, but they can act as a shock absorber, which helps prevent damage to joints but not only that, they can help to relieve pains in other parts of your body. Most gel insoles are washable, making them a good value for money too.
Moisturise
One of the worst things about aging feet is the increased likelihood of dry, cracked skin. People often moisturise their faces and bodies and forget their feet, but our feet need that extra moisturiser and regular use of a good moisturiser can make a huge difference to the state of your feet. Visit your pharmacy or supermarket and look out for a specialist moisturiser for your feet and get pampering, you will be amazed at the difference it will make.
Elevate
At the end of a long day, there is nothing better than putting your feet up and it is exactly what you should do to help your feet. Not only does taking the weight off your feet, give them a well-earned rest, but it will ease any aches or pains. If you suffer from swelling around your feet or ankles, you should raise your feet above your heart, this helps to drain excess fluid back into your upper body and will help to reduce swelling. In addition it is really beneficial for your circulation.
Exercise
Okay I have to admit that when my feet are tired and aching, the last thing I feel like doing is exercise, but it is really good for tired feet. Regular exercise helps to improve your strength and reduces the risk of injury. Generally, by doing exercise, it will improve your circulation and relieve pressure, all which will make your feet feel better and the rest of you will feel better at the same time.
Wear Supportive Footwear
By wearing supportive footwear, you help to distribute your weight more evenly which in turn can lead to a reduction in aches and pains in your feet. They can also help with balance and posture.
Whatever steps you take to support your feet, will help with the physical steps you are taking every day and it is worthwhile giving your frazzled feet some well-deserved tender loving care.
