I was having a discussion on Twitter the other day and used my well-worn phrase that ‘there weren’t enough hours in the day’. I use it a lot as it is so true, there aren’t and someone suggested that we could really do with an extra day. That would be so lovely wouldn’t it? Or would it? In reality if we had an extra day, we would fill it with work, school, children, housework and just life in general.
But just say that every now and then you had an extra day where you could do what you wanted for twenty four hours, what would you do?
Would you use it to catch up with all those long lamented jobs that need doing around the house; you know the ones that desperately need doing but never quite make it to the top of the list? Top of my list would be painting walls; my poor house is so battered and unloved and all the walls could so with a bit of TLC, then the carpets all need a good clean, my oven sets the smoke alarms off when ever I switch it on, the garden needs sorting, my cupboards could all do with a good clean out and I’m quite sure I could find enough things to fill several weeks rather than a day.
Maybe some rest and relaxation instead then. A day of pure unadulterated luxury and me time. I could go to a spa for the day and lie back and let someone pamper me whilst sipping champagne and thinking about .. well nothing would be nice. Have my hair done, maybe a facial topped off by a bit of child free shopping time. That does sound like a perfect day; albeit a bit of an expensive one.
I could of course opt for a nice day with the family. We could go somewhere nice for the day; maybe the beach or to a nice park for the day and just enjoy a day of playing without having to think or worry about anything else for the day. Take a nice picnic, enjoy playing football, cricket tag and there would be lots of laughter. That would be a good day.
I’m sure that there would be lots of other things to do with an extra day although the second two options are definitely my favourite (those jobs will just have to wait some more). But in the very unlikely event of having an extra day, I will simply have to settle for setting a day aside every now and then to be my ‘extra day’ and try and make it really special.
What would you do with an extra day?

Interesting one. I now have two days a week off work a week within which I thought I would do loads. Narrow it down though and it’s 5 hrs a day. Within that its amazing how quickly the cleaning, baking, meal planning, tidying up and err blogging takes those hrs up! But a whole full day you say? It would be spent chore free, on a beach, possibly alone!
As I’m heavily pregnant (and they love the boy) my parents have offered to take our darling son away for 48 hours this week. We can’t think of ANYTHING to do! Despite daydreaming of this kind of luxury for several hours most weeks! I think we’ve settled on: repainting the banisters and having a Chinese. Wild eh?!
