The Funee Fours

February 24, 2014 in Family, Family Life

Since she has reached the heady heights of four years old, my daughter has become a really funny little girl. It is amazing how they suddenly change from little toddlers to children almost overnight. She is happy, confident, independent, determined and at times downright stroppy and she makes me laugh. A lot.

Today is a good example of this. For some strange reason, she has developed a rather interesting Irish accent. Who know where that has come from but it makes her sound hilarious and somewhat difficult to understand too. After a rather obstinate refusal to get dressed and me threatening to take her to play group stark naked when Irish girl returned and she treated us to half an hour of Irish mumbling where the only phrase I could understand was ‘new shoes’.

We managed to get to play group and A was pleased to see her friends after a week off. One of her friends walked up to her with a sad face and I heard her mention that her pet had died. A looked at her for a moment and then said; “Oh, look at my new shoes.” I had to suppress a giggle even though my daughter was showing such a blatant lack of sympathy. Fortunately, her friend was quite impressed with A’s shoes and the pair of them spent the next five minutes comparing shoes.

When I picked her up, she had a party invitation. Now, when you are four, party invitations are a big deal. A loves parties. The invitation was for a Wacky Warehouse party and so the conversation went;

Me: “So you’ve been invited to E’s party?”
A: “Have I?”
Me: “Yes, that’s the invitation you have in your hand.”
A: “No that’s an invitation to Wacky Warehouse, I’m going with my friends.”
Me: “Yes, E’s party is at Wacky Warehouse.”
A: “Oh is it? I’m not invited.”
Me: ” Yes, you are invited to E’s party, the invitation is in your hand.”
A: (reverting to Irish voice) “Okay.”
Me: “Which one is E?”
A: “She is the one who has the different coat to me.”
Me: “You will have to point her out to me.”
A: “Can’t. We’re not allowed to point at play group.”
Me: ” Well maybe you can show me.”
A: “She is the girl with blonde hair and she doesn’t wear glasses.”
Me: “Ah well, I will see her at the party.”
A: “I’m not invited to her party, I’m going to Wacky Warehouse instead.”

I give up. Four year old logic. You can’t beat it.

Hehe I love the Irish accent so much I’d make her talk to me like that all the time. I hope she has a great time at Wacky Houses instead of Es party 😉

I’m sure she will, especially if she gets to wear her new shoes!

This is hilarious, sounds like the conversations I am starting to have with Buba. I could actually picture your four year old saying it in a little voice. Too cute. I love Wots So funee, because its’ great to share laughter and read things that make you smile. This definitely made my day. So cute.

Aaagh! Torturous conversation, but very funny. Love ‘we’re not allowed to point’. I’m sure not wearing glasses would have narrowed it right down too!

She is very funny at the moment but yes ‘torturous’ is a good word to describe our conversations at times.

Oh dear – I think A might be channelling my best friend Manda. When we are ‘social’ she adopts an Irish accent and also mumbles about new shoes – it’s scary!!!!! Great post and loved the chat about the birthday party. Hope she has a good time 🙂 #funee

Ha ha that made me laugh! I’m sure she will enjoy the party and at least she will be able to wear her new shoes too!

I love how they don’t dwell on things – dead pet one minute, new shoes the next! And that they’re so sure they’re right all the time 🙂
Thanks for joining in lovely lady x

Oh all of my children were born being right all of the time, I’m sure. And yes we could probably all learn a lesson from them about not dwelling on things

haha loving the irish accent! My little boy has a brilliant “okaay!” which he brings out when he means “I’ve given up trying to work out what you’re on about so maybe you’ll leave me alone if I say Okaay” 🙂
