Locksies Review

Locksies are a new range of dolls from Bandai and I have to say that they are quite a clever concept.  Now we have a vast array of dolls in this house of different sizes and types, but Locksies are something quite new. There are four Locksies dolls to collect and each doll is 15 cm and comes with a selection of fabrics, ribbons, shoes and accessories.  Each doll also comes with a stylus and has a locking strip at the back and the idea is that you take the pieces of fabric and ribbons and you wrap them around the Locksies doll and tuck the material into the back with the stylus.

A was fascinated by the idea of this as she loves dressing her dolls.  With her normal dolls, she does struggle to get the clothes on and off and so I did wonder whether or not she would be able to dress these dolls without my help.

She was thrilled to get the Locksies doll out as she was really excited about having a doll with accessories and different clothes and once I had shown her how to lock the fabric into the back of the doll, she was able to do it herself easily.

She really loves this doll.  Every now and then, she asks me to help her to slot the fabrics in, but it has been great to encourage her independent play as she has played for hours.  She changes the dress, plays with the doll’s hair and puts slides in, takes the shoes on and off and then plays with the doll in the car and her dolls house.  The doll’s size is good as it easily fits in her dolls house which is her favourite thing to play with in the whole world.

We were also sent one of the Locksies play sets called Ride in Style / Cabriolet Surprise. This is a fun little set with a rather fetching pink car for the Locksies doll to drive. However, the surprise is that this also transforms into a vanity unit with a stool and a mirror and like the dolls, it comes with a selection of fabrics and ribbons and using the same locking system as the doll, you can open out the car and dress the unit and make it look pretty for your doll.

I did manage to have a quick go at doing this, but I was quickly told off by my daughter as she loves the car and currently doesn’t want to transform it, but I’m sure she will at some point.

We have had the Locksies doll for a week now and A has played with it every day. I have been really impressed with the doll and would definitely look at buying a couple more for A in the future as she has been really inspired by being able to dress the doll so easily. You can buy an additional pack of fabrics and accessories, but we have talked about making our own little dresses too from some scraps of fabric that I have.
