Buying School Uniform with BHS

July 7, 2014 in Reviews

I have now been buying school uniform on an ongoing basis for thirteen years.  Thirteen years.  I dread to think how much money and time has been spent in that time.  With little miss A starting in September, unless we go all European and stop uniforms all together, I will be buying uniform for at least another thirteen years.

So I guess that makes me a bit of an expert and I have to say that generally the choice of uniform and availability has really improved in that time and we are no longer forced to go to one designated uniform shop each year.  One place that has consistently been my go to shop over the years is BHS.  BHS has one of the best ranges of school uniform around and they take into consideration that every child is different.  Mine certainly are and all three of the boys all like different styles of trousers.  With BHS this isn’t a problem as you can choose from a large range of different styles and fits; some individual and others come in great value twin packs of  which I am a fan.

R is moving to secondary school in September and we have a huge list of uniform to buy for him and how I am looking forward to having more white shirts to iron each week.  With that in mind, I chose a great value pack of two non iron white long-sleeved shirts which are £11.  They are great quality and I will be interested to see how they wash and wear.

BHS Shirt and Trouser Twin Packs

Along with the shirt, I ordered a twin pack of charcoal trousers in age 11 which are £13.  R is currently wearing age 11 trousers in school and these were a little tight but luckily they fit L so he can wear them next year.  I also ordered a pair of skinny fit trousers in age 12 and R loved these as he is quite fashion conscious now and these reminded him of his favourite skinny jeans.  All of the trousers have adjustable waists which is so useful and are Teflon fabric protected; this is wonderful as particularly with boys, uniform needs all the help it can get to last a little longer.   They are also machine washable, easy iron and most important for me during the winter months, you can dry them in the tumble dryer.  R said that the trousers were really cool and that the shirts were very comfortable.  I think  he looks very smart but far too grown up for my liking.

Buying girl’s uniform is a whole new experience and I had no idea that there would be so many different styles of pinafore dress.  Having said that there are some lovely ones to choose from and I particularly liked this pinafore for £12 as it is really soft and has pretty ribbon detail which I knew A would like.

BHS Girl's Pinafore

As you can see, A is really sad about going to school!  She loves this pinafore and refused to take it off all morning.  It is a nice shape and has a simple to use zip at the side which is important as A really needs to be able to take the dress on and off herself when she changes for PE or forest school.

For me, BHS tick all of the boxes when it comes to buying uniform.  There is a great choice, all of the uniform washes and wears well as it is great quality and has been designed with children and parents in mind and there are some great value options too if you are keeping to a budget.  I have often shopped at BHS over the years and I have no doubt that I will continue in the future.

I received all of the items for the purpose of the review.  All opinions and images are my own.

You had me at “washes and wears well”! My 8 year old is in school and my 4 year old starts in September *sobs. I’m putting off the uniform buying as I’m in denial, but I need to get on it, so thanks for the tips xx

I would never have thought of BHS for uniform but that all looks lovely and seems great value for money. I have one going up into secondary school and it’s costing me a fortune!

I LOVE BHS. There isnt one near me but whenever I see one I dash in and stock up on all the stuff I can. It is just such great value.

Sadly my children all went to a school that had uniform that had to be bought from their shops so I couldnt do a ram raid on BHS but I would have loved to!!
