Every now and then you discover something wonderful that had been under your nose all along, you just hadn’t realised it.
Inspired by Manneskjur’s meet up post here, where she and a handful of other bloggers visited Hitchin Lavender Farm, I decided that it looked so lovely that it was something that I would love to do with A as she loves flowers and gardens. I took to the great all-knowing Google and found that there was a lavender farm about ten minutes away in a tiny village called Snowshill. So one morning last week, A and I drove up there to have a look and I am so glad that I did as it was breathtaking. I had no idea that it would be so beautiful. Rows and rows of sweet smelling lavender, a huge patch of wild flowers of different colours with paths snaking in and out to run along and hide in and all with the gentle hum of bees in the background. It is truly a wonderful place to visit and from the top of the hill, you can see for miles across the Cotswolds.
After you have run around the rows and rows of flowers and looked at the names of the different types and colours, there is a welcoming tea room with lots of lavender infused delights to try. I opted for a cream tea with strawberry jam with lavender and it was so delicious. Then we had a quick look around the gift shop before heading back to the lavender fields for another run around.
It was the loveliest morning and A enjoyed it as much as I did. It only cost £2.50 to go in which was great value for time we spent there.
If you get the chance to visit a lavender farm, you should do it as it is a refreshing, relaxing and inspiring and A and I are going again before the end of the season. It is also the most wonderful backdrop to take photos and these are just a few of the many that I took while we were there.

It looks beautiful! I love lavender, in our old house we had several large bushes around the front door and I loved having them there, before we moved a cut loads of it to dry and I still have some which I use to make lavender bags. My parents bought me a little bush for our new house but it hasn’t really got going yet, although this morning I noticed that it’s flowering nicely. I just looked up our closest lavender farm and found that visits finished last weekend…something to remember for next year!

I can almost smell that gorgeous lavender just from looking at your photos! My daughter Hannah would love it here and I think Andy might even like it, if I can get him to put down his electronic device 🙂
This has inspired me to put this on my list of places to take the children. Me and the 2 younger children are going on a year long sabbatical and we are visiting different places all over Europe. Mostly England… as England is my one true love!
I don’t know why I haven’t been visiting your blog, I love it, I am going to have to check to see where I have you as follower because I only today found out you had a facebook page for your blog!! I will check to make sure you’re on all of my places that I check blogs for!!

Thank you so much Tammy, that is so lovely of you. How great it is that you love England and yes you should add it to your list as there is a really beautiful village called Broadway down the road which is really worth a visit too.
I did not even realise that we had anything like this so close by. £2.50 is such a fantastic price for a day out too.

Yes there is a definite calming effect from the lavender, we both slept well too. Maybe I should start growing it en masse in the garden.
Oh my goodness – I’m SO visiting there one day! Just stunning. Saw some amazing lavender at Blenheim Palace the other day too. I have so much in my garden! Can’t get enough of the stuff. x
I definitely recommend it and it helps the children to sleep afterwards too
Now I do love lavender but a wildflower meadow gives me lots of happies.I’m looking forward to growing our own next year.

I think it depends on the type as to what colour it is. I never realised there were so many different types.
Lavender always reminds me of Provence (I’ve never been just pics I’ve seen) so I am really happy to hear we have our own here!
