It might only be a little bit at a time but bloggers really can change the world.
Take Team Honk as a very good example. Team Honk is a made up of a variety of bloggers of all shapes and sizes and this year they have undertaken their third mission to raise money for Comic Relief. At the end of the year, Team Honk founders Tanya, Penny and Annie were busy organising a ‘secret thing’ and there was much excitement when the plans for this year’s mission were revealed; the Danceathon. Six hours of non-stop dancing in Wembley. What a brilliant idea!
It wasn’t just for bloggers of course, there would be 2000 dancers, celebrities and presenters all involved in the day and it sounded amazing.
I signed up without thinking. I love Comic Relief, I love Team Honk and I love dancing. I must point out at this point that I categorically cannot dance. I have no rhythm. I have no finesse. I have absolutely no co-ordination in any part of my body. I am the sort of person that stands out in any dance or aerobic type class as I will be the one crushing everyone else’s toes, smacking them in the face with my flailing arms and generally going the wrong way and making a nuisance of myself.
Did I care? No. This was about pulling together with Team Honk and raising some money.
My husband was slightly less enthusiastic about the idea. As always, he was worried that my general lack of fitness was going to cause me to keel over mid danceathon and he kept gently nagging me to do some exercise (which I ignored as usual).
As Sunday approached, I did start to have a few palpitations about the six hours. Would I be able to stop? Would I be able to go to the loo? How could I fit my whole life into the regulation bumbag which was the only type of bag allowed in? Would I look really stupid in a tutu? Would I be the oldest person there? Was I completely mad?
But it did not matter. There was a whole range of people of all shapes, ages and sizes there in tutus, onesies and a whole array of different costumes. It didn’t matter than I couldn’t dance, it didn’t matter that I was uncoordinated, I did step on a few toes (apologies if they were yours) but it did not matter.
The atmosphere was fantastic. The day was broken down into 12 half hour segments of music and dance from different eras and genres. The instructors were all energetic and fun and although a few of the sections were harder to follow than others, it didn’t matter if you were freestyling as long as you were dancing and having fun.
I still can’t believe that I managed the whole six hours. I didn’t stop and it was such fun, I think I could have carried on for a few more hours.
The best big of the whole day for me was the Michael Jackson session which had the best instructor who had us all doing a Thriller routine at the end. Aly from Bug, Bird and Bee captured the end result and this gives you a taster of the what the Comic Relief Danceathon was like.
Team Honk were there in force with a hundred bloggers involved in raising money for Comic Relief and I think that as the amount raised tipped over the £30000 mark this week, we all felt emotional both for the amount that we collectively raised and the day we had all spent in Wembley. £30000 is a huge amount of money and will make a difference to so many lives that it is a huge achievement.
That total is still going up and if you want to sponsor me or Team Honk, you still can. I am really proud to have been part of Team Honk and the Comic Relief Danceathon and with the amount raised so far, it just goes to show that bloggers really can change the world .

Well done to you and all of Team Honk! £30,000 is an incredible amount to raise and it looks like the whole day was an amazing experience.
(I would totally have been stressing about squeezing stuff into a bumbag too!)

I was the same – very sceptical about my abilities to keep going for 6 hours, but I did – and could have done more (still paying for it now though, 10 days later!). What an incredible day.
