Pause Button

I need a pause button.

Everything seems to be happening so quickly. Everything seems to be changing. Faces in photos stare back at me like strangers. Those small smiling children with cute faces and cheeky smiles that once shared my life; where have they gone?

Those happy moments captured on canvas and video seem like lifetimes ago and all vaguely familiar but at the same time different.

I need a pause button.

Those small children have been replaced by much larger, not always so smiley children who are becoming independent young people. There are no longer babies. Not even a toddler. Certainly not small.  It is all long legs and strong wills around here now.

I need a pause button.

I worry when I look back at those photos and clips of videos and it is like I am looking at someone else’s family, hearing another mother’s voice in the back ground. But it is me. My family. Yet it all seems somehow  new and unfamiliar.

I need a pause button.

Not to stop, nor to rewind. I feel such happiness and pride at how amazing and independent they have become.  Travel and university for the eldest.  Secondary school is second nature to the next.  Ready for the move to secondary school and some, is the next and for the smallest; she just loves her life.  Their achievements make me smile. They make me smile so much I feel as though I might burst.

I need a pause button.

Just to be able to stop for a moment every now and then, to take it all in. To take a long look at their beautiful faces, to smell their hair, to stroke their faces, to take in every minute detail about them at each stage in their lives.  Just a few minutes every now and then to help me remember.  This crazy roller-coaster ride that we call family life seems to fly by at such a high speed, there are so many moments that come and go and I feel like I am missing things, forgetting things.

The shutter of my camera captures many of these moments but there are so many more things that I want to remember.

I need a pause button.

I need to stop my beautiful children; not from growing up, but from growing up so quickly.

Pause Button

Yes! I totally get where you’re coming from with this. I sometimes think I’d like life to travel at half the speed it does. I love having big kids and seeing them grow, but it would nice to have a bit more time to enjoy them.

Oh my gosh yes please, I would love one of those. I try to cherish the moments and drink the special times in. But SOMEhow it is all still flying by so so quickly. I’m not even sure how. I remember when A was starting school last year and its gone in the blink of an eye. It’ll be the same for Z I think!

It flies all too quickly, I just wish I could slow it down a little bit.
