I have become a big fan of blinds over recent years, they are easier to maintain than curtains, they look neater and let more light into a room and they don’t cost a fortune either. The other bonus of blinds is that they are far better than curtains if you have someone in the house with dust mite allergies.
As L is allergic to dust mites, when we gave him his own room last summer, a blind was top of the list and we had one fitted and it looked great. Since then, L has chosen to go back into the same room as his brother and of course, in there we still had the heavy lined curtains, so I had already been looking at Web-Blinds and wondering whether I would be able to put up one of their blinds myself ( I am not particularly blessed when it comes to DIY skills).
It turns out I can. I was offered the chance to review their online ordering system and one of their blinds and they have guides online to guide you through getting the correct measurements for your blinds and also how to fit. Happy that I would be able to do this single-handed I ordered a Luna Red Blackout Roller Blind as this fitted in nicely with R’s Liverpool theme in his bedroom.
Ordering is simple, armed with the measurements, you put in the width and drop you require, choose whether you want your blind to be inside the window recess or an exact outside measurement and then it is simply a case of deciding how you want to open your blind, colours and designs of fixtures and fittings and it calculates costs as you go along. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the prices are for these blinds.
The blind arrived quickly with everything you need to install it along with a paper copy of the fitting instructions which was really helpful. All blinds with a hanging cord also come with a safety hook to stop the cords from hanging down too and these are easy to fit once your blind is in place and these simple devices are a huge reassurance if you have little ones.
I was very reticent about putting the blind up as I have had some ‘interesting’ experiences with curtain poles in the past, but I was determined to have a go. It was actually very simple. The key is to measure as you have to put the brackets up with the correct distance to fit the blind in at the end. I measured, I double measured, I measured how far I wanted the brackets from the ceiling and I was quite amazed when I had the blind up and working.
Once you have the brackets are up and the blind is in, it is all set up ready to use. It took a few minutes to set up the safety hook and the job was done. It took me about 45 minutes to do and as I said, I am not a DIY expert at all.
The blind is perfect, it looks much cleaner and tidier than the curtains and because it is blackout, it will make the lighter nights easier to manage too.
Apart from being very smug that I was able to put the blind up without any help, I am really impressed with the blind. It was very easy to put up, the instructions were very easy to follow and the end result is a good quality blind that looks great. I will absolutely be returning to Web-Blinds again in the future as I need blinds for a few rooms in the house and now I know how easy they are to measure for and fit and the blinds are reasonably priced too.

People always get a bit nervous about putting blinds up don’t they? I love our blinds in our house. I would probably never ever put white in our bedroom again though, ever! They definitely are not black out ones and as Z regularly wants to crawl into our bed he will get up nice and early 🙂
I did but I was very pleasantly surprised how easy this was. I think i will replace all of the curtains now.
