Vtech Flipsies

Inspiring and engaging are two words that immediately come to mind when I think about the new Flipsies range from Vtech.  Flipsies have been designed with aspiration in mind with the idea that one of the best ways to give children the confidence to follow their dreams is through play.

“Flipsies encourage girls to achieve any dream they can imagine. They are designed to be aspirational, so you can feel confident that they are entertaining your child in a positive and empowering way.”

Flipsies are very different to anything that we have ever had before.  The idea behind them is that Flipsies will help to empower girls into dreaming big.  Each of the Flipsies characters dreams of having a different career and the accessories and playsets allow you to turn them into whichever is their chosen career.  Sandy dreams of being a marine biologist, Jazz wants to be a rock star, for Styla the dream is to become a fashion designer and Eva wants to become a vet.  Each of these and the other Flipsies characters all come with a magic pendant which when pressed, light up and makes them talk.  All of the sets come with a range of accessories such as hair, sunglasses and clothes that can be easily changed making them easy to use for even smaller hands.

Each of the playsets contains something which contains a magic point and this is very clever.  When you place one of the Flipsies onto the magic point, they say different phrases and you can use different dolls and they will all say different things.  With the bigger playsets such as Sandy’s Yacht and House, there are several magic points enabling you to hear a variety of different phrases which link to their location. In some areas, you can place two Flipsies together and they talk to each other which my daughter absolutely loved.

We were sent Sandy’s Yacht and House which is an impressive looking set.  It took about fifteen minutes to set up as there are some bits that need to be put together and there are stickers to put all over but there is plenty in the set to keep little ones busy while you are getting it ready.

As the yacht, Sandy can relax on the deck in her pool or in her swinging chair, she can swim with her dolphin or take the helm and steer the boat.  By lifting up the top, you transform the yacht into a boat with a kitchen, dining area, bedroom and bathroom.  There are lots of accessories to use and a slide that can be used with both the house and the yacht.

A absolutely loved the set as soon as it came out of the box.  She loved Sandy and the way she could easily swap her hair and clothes and really enjoyed listening to her different phrases.

We were also sent one of the smaller sets, Jazz’s Vanity Table and Piano, which includes wannabe rock star Jazz and a vanity table that flips over to make a piano along with other accessories.

With her pink hair and bunches, A fell in love with Jazz and quickly combined the two sets for some serious Flipsies play.

We have had the sets for two weeks and I can honestly say that I haven’t seen a toy engage my daughter as much as this in a very long time.  She loves it.  She spent hours happily role-playing with the two characters, whooshing the yacht around the living room before flipping to house mode and using the magic point and the accessories for some engaging play.

From a parental point of view, I can see why she loves it, it is engaging, completely different to anything she has played with before and I love the idea behind it with the different careers each of the Flipsies is aspiring too.  Flipsies have got a huge thumbs up in this house and I am certain that these will be headlining A’s new Christmas list (she is making a second list as she has lots of new things to add).
