Chargers, chargers everywhere and not enough plug sockets to plug them in.
– me 2016
Life is like a pile of chargers. Complicated, tangled and somewhat frustrating. Largely due to my ongoing relationship with the aforementioned chargers. I feel as though I am slowly disappearing under a pile of the things. Phone chargers, iPad chargers, laptop cables, more phone chargers, Kindle chargers, toy chargers, headphone chargers, did I mention the phone chargers. It is getting ridiculous. What is even more ridiculous is the fact that I am meant to know exactly where each and every single charger is at the exact moment the owner of its device requires it.
Having products that use the same charger doesn’t help either. We do have a number of Apple products in the house and four of them share the same charger. Except, of course, they always all seem to need charging at the same time. We have two regular apple charging points in the house but it doesn’t matter how many times I put my phone on to charge, I can pretty much always guarantee that someone will have put their device on charge before my phone has even got to 20% charged.
We also get through a rather alarming number of those chargers too. A certain popular online retailer must think it rather odd that we purchase a new one every two months but my sons do not understand the phrases “pull the charger out carefully” or “do not play on your iPad when it’s on charge.” Some charging cables simply disappear into the ether never to be seen again.
And why oh why do the people who take their device off charge, never switch the plug off? I spend my life wandering around the house switching off random chargers with no device attached to the end of it. So good am I, in fact, I usually put my things on charge and then forget to even switch the plug on in the first place.
Every now and then I try to give the impression of someone who is organised and you fill find the odd cable with a sticky lable attached telling you what it will actually charge. I love these cables. I know what and where they are. The rest are just in a tangled heap somewhere and when I want to find the correct one, I have to disentangle them all and play find the charger which can be a time-consuming and quite frankly annoying job. I always intend to do the same for every charger but then life seems to get in the way.
The thing that makes me smile about my charger wars is that we now live in a world where so many things are now wireless, cable-free. Really? Not from where I am standing in my house full of charging cables it isn’t. I can’t even blame everyone else either, I have just bought a rather lovely new hoover which is cordless. Guess what? It has a rather large battery charger. I also have a new mop, which has a charger. I bought at least five Christmas presents last year which have chargers and on and on it goes.
At least we know everything will be fully charged… don’t we?

I ahve a huge horrible tangly box full and can still never find the one i blooming need!
Aaagh! They are a nightmare! My eldest has a habit of taking them and hiding them in his room. Him and his sister argued so much over Kindle chargers that I bought them one each and put name labels on them. They were given strict instructions to only use their own. Needless to say, my eldest’s ‘broke’, so he started taking his sister’s when she needed it and hiding it in his room, so we’re back to arguing.
Do I make him buy a new one? Do I make them go halves on a new one? Or do I just buy a new one myself for the sake of my own sanity?
