Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games Movie Box Set

April 3, 2016 in Reviews

We have a new obsession in this house and it is pony shaped.  My Little Pony.  My daughter absolutely loves it.  We have the toys, we talk about it quite a lot.  We have a couple of the Equestria dolls which she really does love.  Recently A has discovered My Little Pony episodes on Pop and currently she watches, at least, one episode before she goes to bed, so I knew that the arrival of the Equestria Girls box set would make me a very popular mum and I was right.

Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games Boxset

The movie box set is Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games which are two separate Equestria Girls adventures featuring the well-known characters Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer.  Both feature-length movies are full of fun, music and friendship.

In Rainbow Rocks, we find the Equestria Girls at school at Canterlot High where they are hosting a musical showcase. The girls are confident that their new band, The Rainbooms will be a success but when a new group, The Dazzlings arrive, tensions mount between the friends and everyone else at Canterlot High and a suspicious Sunset Shimmer realises that there is something sinister about this new band and she calls Princess Twilight to help out.

With everyone under The Dazzling’s spell and feeding their power with their arguments, will the Equestria Girls be able to save the school in time?

In Friendship Games, Canterlot High is hosting their rival school, Crystal Prep for the long-standing Friendship Games where the two schools compete in a series of exciting events.  Crystal Prep arrive and it is clear that as the frequent winners of the games, they intend to win once again.  The Equestria Girls discover that there is magic in the air and in order to keep the games fair and magic free, Sunset shimmer is given the task of keeping the games magic-free which proves to be a tough job, especially when they discover that one of Crystal Prep’s top students is Twilight Sparkle and she is making weird magical things happen wherever she goes.  Can the Equestria Girls find out what is causing the strange magical happenings before it’s too late?

Equestria Girls Friendship Games

Both of the films are easy to watch and enjoyable and the songs are very catchy indeed ( I have been singing them, so they must be.) I like the theme of the power of friendship which runs through both films and it gives  a positive message about how powerful it can be to tackle problems with friends.  My daughter absolutely loves these films. They are her favourite at the moment and has watched them over and over, she loves the songs and grabs her pretend microphone to sing along each time they come on.  When I asked her to describe them for the review, she said; “They are great films, I really love watching them and I love all of the characters but especially Sunset Shimmer is my favourite in Friendship Games and Twilight Sparkle in Rainbow Rocks.  I can’t wait for the next movie.”

We were sent these DVDs for the purpose of the review.  All opinions are our own.
