Readly was an app that I had heard of but I didn’t really know much about it. Now that I do, I am completely smitten with it. It is brilliant. It is my absolute favourite app and one that I would happily pay for.
If you have never heard of Readly, it is an app for people who want to read magazines. We aren’t talking about just a handful of magazines here either, we are talking about over 1500 top magazines. When I first logged in I was utterly amazed. The app costs £7.99 per month but for that, you can access any of the 1500+ magazines available and not only that, you can access back copies too. It is an app that has something for everyone in the family. Within one subscription, you can share with the rest of the family as you can connect five devices to the same account. When you consider the price of a single magazine each month, £7.99 for all of that is pretty good value, in my opinion.
Once set up, you login and you create individual profiles for each person using the app. Each time you open the app, it will prompt you to say who is reading, so that you immediately go to a virtual bookshelf of magazines that you want to read. The magazines take seconds to download and you can flick through the pages with a swipe of your finger.
Or if you are looking for something specific, you can touch the screen to access all of the pages and slide to the exact page you want to access. Reading is easy on the small screen. My Readly app is on my phone and you can scroll through the pages either as a single or double page spread using the phone in portrait or landscape and when you want to read an article, double click or pinch to enlarge the page. Simple.
So what sort of magazines can you read? Anything and everything. I love magazines and I used to spend a fortune on them, so I am reading a wide range; Simply Crochet, Good Food, Olive, FeelGoodFood, Good Housekeeping, Top Santé, Bella, Red and of course catching up with the soaps that I never watch in the various soap magazines. There is also the option to read magazines from other countries which I love as I am always looking for opportunities to practise my French and what better way than to sit down and read Paris Match or Elle.
Whatever your age or interest, there is a whole host of magazines at the touch of your fingertips. The app is very easy to use. When you set up your profiles, you select male or female and your year of birth and then the app will select recommended magazines for you.
You can search from a wide list of categories to find the perfect selection for you and you can save your regular magazines to your favourites. If there is a particular article that you want to come back to, simply press the bookmark icon at the bottom and it will be saved for you, which is particularly useful for recipes or craft ideas.
Readly will appeal to the whole family. There are magazines for teens, men’s interest magazines and a good range of magazines for older children such as National Geographic Kids, Epic, The Beano, W Kids, Match of the Day and Match. Whilst this would not be suitable for younger children, I would like to see more children’s magazines in the app as I think this is a brilliant way to get children reading.
As someone who loves magazines, I think Readly is amazing. I have shared it with the family and it is great to see that they are loving it too. My husband is enjoying catching up with the various sporting magazines and men’s health. My eldest son is also enjoying the app, reading all of the film and music magazines. For the boys, they are loving having Match of the Day magazine back again (we did used to subscribe).
For £7.99 each month, it is such great value when you add up the cost of buying each of those magazines and of course it is great for the environment too as there is no paper involved. I am so glad that I have discovered this app, I am using it every day. It is perfect for those moments when I am sat waiting for my daughter to go to sleep or during my lunch break or during my half hour of peace in the morning and it is nice to see everyone else in the family enjoying it too.

This does seem like very good value for the magazines you mentioned. I love Red magazine. However I have to confess I do rather like the act of reading a ‘paper’ magazine away from the screen as I spend so much of my working day on the computer!

I agree with the first comment, does sound like it’s worth it, however, just like books, I still prefer magazines I can hold and touch. I’ve been subscribing to Ideal Homes for the longest time and can’t imagine reading it on an iPad, but you’ll never know, I might just change my mind 😉
Great value and I really love magazines, I have to curb my spending or it would be a lot more than £7.99 a month. I do love the idea of being able to read so magazines so easily, but I would also miss sitting down with my mags and a cuppa and having some time away from screens.
Think I need to give this a try!
What a great idea! For anyone who reads lots of magazines this is fab although I agree with above, for me I like to sit down with an actual magazine and flick through it at my leisure, it’s my only real ME time!
It does sound like a good one to try. There is something about flicking over glossy pages, but this is so much more cost effective.
Looks like fun and tasty…. well the pics are making me hungry! haha. Anyway I don’t get much time to read or browse for that matter these days as I changed jobs and no longer take the trains/tube so no time to read – if that changes though I’ll defo try it out, especially as there’s a free trial.

That is really good value. But I really love paper magazines. Mini has a subscription to Match and I like that it is paper so he can take it to bed.
This app sounds amazing value especially for me out of UK as I sometimes buy British mags at vast cost abroad…I may well have to look into it.
