Learning about the world with a SmartGlobe Discovery

My daughter is nearly seven and has suddenly really discovered a fascination for the world around her.  She has been learning about different continents and having travelled to America during the summer holidays, it is as though she has just discovered how big the world is.  She wants to know all about different countries and which continent they are in, the names of capitals and has a tiny globe that belongs to her brother that she keeps studying and takes everywhere with her.

The SmartGlobe Discovery is no ordinary globe.  Firstly, it is a really good size (41 x 33 cm) so that makes it really easy for children (and adults) to see where the countries and continents are.

It is beautifully made, with really bright colours and of course, you can spin it around to explore.

But there is more.  The base is where the real fun begins.  The base is made up of three different activity panels and there is an interactive SmartPen attached.  Switch the globe on (it is battery operated) and use the pen to discover the world by touching different places on the globe and listening to the name of that location.

Each of the three activity panels features  19 fun educational activities and over 2000 facts.  The Touch panel tests knowledge of continents, national anthems, capitals and lots more.

There is a Find Compare panel to add more challenges with the Ultimate Challenge which includes a range of quizzes.

Finally, there is a UK map which is a great way to learn more about our own country and the geography of the UK.

I can honestly say that the SmartGlobe Discovery is amazing.  It is ready to use as soon as it arrives and it is really engaging.  I have found it fascinating myself as my geography is a little bit sketchy at times and there is so much to do on it, it makes learning about the world fun and educational and because of the range of challenges, it is perfect for different aged children too as there is always something new to explore and learn.
