Well, you may have noticed that I have a new look. The blog, that is, not me personally, although I may be slightly greyer and more bewildered looking after far too many hours looking at a screen last week, trying to sort out my blog problems.
If you are in the blogosphere, it would have been impossible to avoid hearing about the whole Pipdig fiasco. It seems that there was some seriously dodgy coding in the Pipdig themes and the advice was to switch themes as soon as possible. Easy if you know how.
I have to be honest and admit that even though I have been blogging for nearly nine years, I still have absolutely no clue about the whole technical side of things. I was gutted to have to change themes as I loved the one I had and it was the first time I had managed to change the theme all by myself.
The first job was to search through the endless themes online to find something I liked. There were two requirements. Firstly it had to be a theme I could upload and tinker with myself and secondly, it had to be fairly inexpensive.
The first theme I chose cost £2. Yes, stupid I know to expect a lot for such a small amount of money. I managed to get it to work of a fashion but it wasn’t very responsive and not what I wanted at all. After much trawling of the internet, I found Georgia Lou Studios. The themes were nice, seemed to do what I wanted in the demos and weren’t too expensive. Plus, there were tutorials to help set them up.
Once I had the theme, I went to the site excitedly to watch some of the tutorials only to discover that they related to Blogger. This is a WordPress site and so I was slightly less enthusiastic at this point.
I can tell you that many hours were spent trying to sort it all out. In the end, my head hurt with it all. But, I have managed to set it up, made my own logo, linked everything up and it looks okay. A few tweaks are still needed, but I needed to step away from the computer for a few days to try and give myself a bit of a break.
At some point, when the funds allow, I will get someone who knows what they are doing to take a look as I have so many plugins and with half of them, I’m not really sure if I really need them, or what they are actually doing. But for now, the blog is up and running, with a nice new bright look and it works, so that works for me. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it!

What a nightmare it’s been for you and all of the other bloggers. Very well done for sorting it out, it’s looking good. There’s no way I could have managed it. I would have been straight to Geek Fairy!

I really don’t want to rub salt in the wounds, I am so sorry to hear you’ve been through the mill. But! I use Georgia Lou Studios on wordpress, I think some may be blogger specific but there are others. I am in no way technically savvy (still trying to figure out how to do no follow on Gutenberg but did manage to install the theme! Good luck with whatever you do- when you’re nine years in the making it will definitely come right! x
